The Chinese state corporation Dongfeng Motor is preparing to launch the first-born of the new Mengshi brand, the M-Hero 917 frame SUV, it will be offered with a hybrid and fully electric powertrains to choose from. The electric version with four motors has a total output of 1088 hp.
The Mengshi brand was launched last year as a civilian branch of the Dongfeng Mengshi Military Vehicles subsidiary, which produces off-road vehicles and wheeled armored vehicles for the needs of the Chinese military and intelligence agencies. Mengshi is translated from romanized Chinese into English as Warrior, into Russian as «warrior». The first model is assigned the index 917, along with the strange abbreviation M-Hero, which can be seen on the handlebars and the hinged trunk of the tailgate: M is apparently Mengshi, and Hero stands for High-Tech Electrical Reform Off-Road. Meanwhile, at the concept stage presented a year ago, the SUV was called Mengshi M-Terrain.

At the heart of the Mengshi 917 is the Mora Modular Frame Platform (stands for Mengshi Off-Road Architecture), designed from the ground up for the new brand, with fully independent suspension and a pivoting rear axle for easy on- and off-road maneuvering. Overall length Mengshi 917 — 4987 mm, width — 2080 mm, height — 1935 mm, wheelbase — 2950 mm. The American GMC Hummer EV, which was clearly inspired by Chinese designers, is slightly larger (length — 4999 mm, wheelbase — 3218 mm), but the «Chinese» has a more complex, if not redundant, design with many faces and «clawed» lighting. It is curious that the external hinges of the front doors appeared already in the production car, they were not on the concept.

Salon Mengshi 917 looks brutal, but at the same time expensive and rich: on the front panel there are three screens at once (instrument, multimedia and passenger), there is a lot of leather, wood and metal in the decoration. Driving modes are controlled by a visually complex design of two levers and buttons on the central tunnel, among the off-road modes there are “ford”, “dirt”, “sand”, “stones” and “snow”.
< p>The power plant of the electric version of the Mengshi 917 consists of four electric motors (one motor per wheel), their maximum combined output is 800 kW (1088 hp) and 1400 Nm. Up to 100 km/h, an electric SUV with a curb weight of 3293 kg accelerates in 4.2 seconds, the maximum speed is limited to 195 km/h. A full charge of the 142.74 kWh battery is enough for 505 km of the Chinese CLTC cycle.

The return of the plug-in hybrid version has not yet been declassified, it is only known that it will have three electric motors and an internal combustion engine as an electric range extension. The electric range of the hybrid SUV is 156 km, the internal combustion engine extends it to 825 km.
There are several interesting options in the Mengshi 917 online configurator, including an energy-intensive spring suspension instead of the standard air suspension, a roar synthesizer ICE with external speakers, a quadcopter with a camera, a winch, a full spare wheel on the tailgate and an expeditionary roof rack.
The full premiere of the Mengshi 917 will take place next week at the Chengdu Auto Show, but pre-orders are already being taken on the Mengshi website. Prices are expected to be in the range of 700,000 to 1,600,000 yuan (from 9.5 million to 21.7 million rubles in current exchange rates), that is, Mengshi 917 will be one of the most expensive SUVs in the Chinese market.
Let's add that in February of this year, the Mengshi brand introduced the MS20/MS600 family of heavy diesel SUVs with an even more monstrous design than the Mengshi 917.
