As part of yesterday's big presentation in Cape Town (South Africa), the Indian company Mahindra & Mahindra, along with the concept of the future electric SUV Thar.e, showed a prototype of a new mid-size frame pickup truck with the factory index Z121, made on the basis of the Scorpio-N SUV. The truck is positioned as a global model (hence the peculiar name — Mahindra Global Pik Up) and will be offered on all continents.
As we said in the article about Thar.e, the Indian company Mahindra & Mahindra wants to become a major player in the global car market and is expanding its product portfolio, mainly due to electric vehicles, but there will also be “hydrocarbon” new items, one of the main ones is a pickup truck with the working name Global Pik Up (the commercial name may be different). The Mahindra range already has trucks based on Bolero and Scorpio Classic frame SUVs, but their design has long been morally obsolete and they do not pull on the role of global ones.

Global Pik Up is made on a frame platform with the long name Tough & The Versatile New Gen Ladder Frame, borrowed from the latest SUV in the range, the Mahindra Scorpio-N, debuted last year. The wheelbase of a pickup, of course, is longer than that of an SUV, but how exactly is still unknown: the Scorpio-N has a wheelbase of 2750 mm, a modern mid-size pickup truck with a two-row cab, judging by competitors, needs at least 3000 mm.
The prototype of the pickup truck arrived at the presentation, as they say, in full dress: on “toothy” tires, with a winch, a snorkel, a “chandelier”, an expeditionary roof rack, spare wheels in the back and other off-road ammunition, which, of course, is in the “base” , will not, but a comfortable rear bumper with three steps (two at the edges, one in the center) will most likely be preserved, that is, it will live to see the production version of the model, which should go on sale in 2025.
Salon with a very conservative architecture of the front panel — exactly the same as the Scorpio-N. The pickup truck will also borrow power units from the SUV: a 2.0-liter mStallion petrol turbo engine (203 hp, 380 Nm) and a 2.2-liter mHawk turbodiesel in two versions — with a maximum output of 132 hp. and 300 Nm or 175 hp and 400 Nm. Gearbox — 6-speed «mechanics» or 6-speed hydromechanical «automatic». Four-wheel drive — part-time type, with a hard-wired “front end” and a reduction gear in the transfer case, a mechanical lock is provided for the rear axle differential. Suspension front — double wishbones, rear — continuous bridge with a stabilizing Watt mechanism.

In general, the design is completely ordinary, but for a workhorse, more necessary. Meanwhile, Mahindra promises to equip its pickup truck with the latest active and passive safety systems to achieve high Global NCAP and Euro NCAP ratings. Among the electronic driver assistants will be a second-level autopilot and a trailer stabilization system. The full kit, of course, will only be available for a fee — at least in emerging markets.

Mahindra has already announced that it will be selling the Global Pik Up in Australia and New Zealand, Africa, South America, the Middle East and South East Asia. Russia is not yet included in the strategic plan of the Indian company.
