The Iranian company Saipa's entry into the Russian market stalled again, but it nevertheless again came to the MIMS exhibition in Moscow. We tell you what we managed to find out.
The Iranian companies Iran Khodro (IKCO) and Saipa were at the MIMS exhibition last year, and now they have come again. On the stand of Iran Khodro — «last year's» black Tara sedan, but this time surrounded by a variety of automotive components that fit perfectly into the main theme of MIMS. Rolf already sells Iran Khodro cars in Russia, there were no new models at the IKCO booth.
Saipa seemed to have two distributors this spring — the St. Petersburg company Best Motors and the Minsk company Lucky Carensi, both planned to receive 45,000 cars from Saipa within three years and both considered the possibility of their localization: Best Motors — at one of the idle sites in St. Petersburg, «Lucky Carensi» — at the Unison plant in the suburbs of Minsk. Both companies promised presentations of Iranian cars back in April, but they never held, Saipa cars are still not on sale.
Representatives of Saipa at MIMS 2023 reported that the certification of Iranian cars in the Russian Federation was somewhat delayed, but things will soon get off the ground, and everything will be fine. Surprisingly, the Iranian managers could not tell us whether the agreements with Best Motors and Lucky Carensi remained in force, and the only car presented at the booth — the Quik cross-hatchback — had the license plate of the multi-brand seller Major City. The Major website does indeed have the Quik, Saina and Shahin models announced for the Russian Federation in the spring, but without details and prices. />
Saipa's English-speaking manager undertook to personally show us the Quik cross-hatchback: according to him, this model was not made on the basis of Kia Pride from the mid-80s of the last century, according to Wikipedia, but is Saipa's own development. Overall length Quik — 4005 mm, width — 1678 mm, height — 1532 mm, wheelbase — 2415 mm. A 1.5-liter gasoline «aspirated» produces a maximum of 87 hp. and 128 Nm, gearbox — 5-speed «mechanics» or a variator, a version with a variator was presented at the exhibition.

Most components for the Saipa Quik are made in Iran, but it is the CVT that comes from abroad from Punch Powertrain. The design and workmanship of the Saipa Quik salon do not cause consumer enthusiasm, to put it mildly, but, as our Iranian interlocutor rightly noted, there is everything you need here: air conditioning, a multimedia system, “music”, a rear-view camera, power windows, a multifunctional steering wheel — in general, basic comfort. uploads/2023/08/c3fd86d27a13456cec61156a29f90ed7.jpg» /> 2/3 Saipa now delivers its machines to Venezuela and there they are in great demand, because they are cheap: Quik costs about 5000-6000 US dollars there, depending on the equipment. Saipa was contracted by the Venezuelan government to supply 200,000 vehicles over five years. The Iranians will calculate that Saipa cars will be one of the most affordable on the Russian market, that is, they will compete with Ladams, but they are not yet ready to say exactly when, where and how much. We'll try to ask them about it next year.
