Boris Johnson will be the faceless character in the new re-enactment of the 'Partygate' scandal, with his signature impressionist voice.
Channel 4 has announced that it will be covering the politically costly drunken revelry in The Number. 10th place in a new production called Partygate: A True Story.
But when the broadcaster revealed the cast of the docudrama, it turned out that Mr. Johnson would be a faceless character.
The former prime minister would just «voiced» in the new production, and John Culshaw, a noted impressionist, will play only a spoken-word role in «a carefully crafted docudrama» that «transports audiences to Number 10».
The producers said the decision to simply show the outline of the actor playing Johnson rather than his face was creative.
Clearly, keeping the former prime minister as a featureless presence would allow the production to intertwine archival footage of the politician, so they don't annoy the different looks of the actor playing him.
Focused on two fictional special advisors
The docudrama will center on two fictional special counselors, played by actresses Georgie Henley and Ophelia Lovibond, who are close to a series of lockdown parties that eventually sparked the scandal that forced Johnson to resign in 2022.
Quadrofenia star Phil Daniels will also appear in Partygate's True Story.
Announcing the cast on Tuesday, Channel 4 said: «He will tell the inside story in dramatic reenactments intertwined with archival news footage and documentary interviews.» . , showing how the horrors of Covid are unfolding across the country as Number 10 staff fight back against a string of alcohol-lubricated parties.»
Mr Johnson was fined for attending a party for the occasion his birthday in Downing Street. and faced calls to resign.
He apologized to Parliament for attending some of the events at No. 10, saying he took «full responsibility» for what happened at his work place.< /p>
However, amid a growing number of resignations from ministerial posts, he stepped down in July 2022.
