Rishi Sunak should 'force' Nadine Dorries out of parliament, Sir Keir Starmer said.
The Labor leader made comments mocking her failure to step down 10 weeks after the announcement about his resignation. He said the MP for Mid-Bedfordshire was «totally absent», saying she would resign with «immediate effect» in June. So far, she has not succeeded.
Sir Keir told LBC on Tuesday: «I don't know what her dictionary definition of an immediate effect is, but 10 weeks after the event, it doesn't seem to be an immediate effect.» He added: «She must go, give Mid-Bedfordshire an MP who will really stand up for them, fight for them, because at the moment she is absolutely absent.»
Sir Keir called on the Prime Minister. to “get the situation under control”, adding: “This is one of your MPs, do something about it, force the issue and continue.”
Earlier this month, Mr. Sunak said that “in right now people are not being represented properly,” when asked if Ms. Dorris had failed her constituents. However, Ms. Dorris is still not without a whip and remains in the Conservative Party.
Earlier this week, a spokesman for the Prime Minister was asked if he would support a Parliamentary proposal aimed at forcing the Middle-Bedfordshire MP to resign. He told reporters: “I think you have already heard about this from a number of ministers. I don't think I have anything to add to what we've said before.»
Immigration Minister Robert Jenrick and Chief Treasury Secretary John Glen said it was time for Ms Dorris to step down, and two local city councils in the constituency expressed their dissatisfaction with their local MP.
Ms Dorris, a close associate Boris Johnson, said she would leave her seat in Parliament in June after failing to receive a peerage on his resignation honors list.
Delaying departure
She said, however, that she was postponing leaving the House of Commons as she sought answers to the question about the peerage, which she never received.
She announced her intention to resign along with Nigel Adams, who formally left the party at the time. His constituency has since held a by-election in which the Conservatives lost to Labor candidate Keir Mather.
Sir Keir said on Tuesday he was «in Mid-Bedfordshire talking to some of its constituents» and that Peter Kyle, Labor MP for Hove, «is our political leader in Mid Bedfordshire and does more work there than Nadine Dorries».
Ms Dorries is the MP for the area since 2005. previously said she would leave «well before the next election.»
Ms Dorris has written a book, Plot: The Political Assassination of Boris Johnson, to be published just a few days before the Conservative Party conference. at the beginning of October. She also hosts a weekly program on Talk TV.
One of Ms. Dorris' supporters said: «Her team of social workers and Nadine are still working for the voters, and that's the real work.»
