The once most popular foreign car in Russia is rapidly losing its status as a global model and is in danger of disappearing altogether.

The best sales year for the Kia Rio in the US was 1999, when the Korean model sold 82,211 units here. Last year, 31,362 Kia Rios were sold in this country, which is 14% less than in 2021. In January-July this year, sales of the model amounted to 16,554 units (-2% compared to the same period in 2022). All in all, while the Kia Rio is one of the most affordable new cars on the market, the demand curve is bending, and Kia's management has decided it can go no further.
