The Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant belongs to the Russian company Sollers, it has been producing the Patriot SUV since 2005, since then the model has been updated several times. A few years ago, rumors appeared in the media about a change in generation, but they were never confirmed. Now it has become known about the new upcoming restyling, which will affect both the design of the Patriot and its “stuffing”.

The UAZ press service informed about the planned renewal of the SUV: the fact is that today the solemn opening of the Sollers Product Development Center took place, which began to work on the basis of the Idea innovative technopark in Kazan. It is noted that one of the first projects, the implementation of which has already begun within the framework of the new Center, was “updating the styling solution for UAZ Patriot cars, as well as integrating and localizing a diesel engine with a six-speed manual transmission into UAZ cars.”

There are no details about how exactly the appearance of the Russian SUV will change yet. Also, UAZ did not share information about when the refreshed Patriot will appear on the market. Recall that the UAZ Patriot lost its diesel engine after the 2016 update. Since then, more than once there have been speculations about the return of diesel SUVs to the lineup (in 2019, the models even predicted a 2.2-liter turbodiesel from the Ford Transit), but all this remained rumors. However, last month UAZ confirmed that the Patriot would once again be equipped with a diesel engine.
It is known that the SUV will share the equipment with the Sollers Argo commercial vehicle (recall, it is a badge-engineering JAC N25/N35), the production of which has been established at the facilities of the Sollers Alabuga plant. We are talking about the «Dzhakovsky» 2.0-liter 130-horsepower diesel engine, the maximum torque of which is 288 Nm. The motor was localized at an enterprise in Tatarstan (at the former Ford engine plant). This diesel works with a six-speed manual transmission.

According to the official website of UAZ, now an SUV can be bought with petrol engines ZMZ-0409051 of Euro-2 and Euro-5 eco-classes. The volume is 2.7 liters, the power is 149.6 hp, and the maximum torque is 235 Nm. Only a five-speed manual transmission is offered as a pair. The starting price of the model in the first case is 1,530,000 rubles; for an SUV with a more environmentally friendly engine, you will have to pay at least 1,550,000 rubles.

The UAZ press center added that, in addition to updating the Patriots, the Center that opened today will develop the Sollers car lineup, «engineering support for a large-scale localization program», and also «the development of new technological solutions, including in the field of electromobility.»
The list of projects that have already started includes the development of an all-wheel drive for the commercial model Sollers Atlant (this is a «copy» of the JAC Sunray), and also «development of localization of new passive safety systems.» In addition, in the near future, the Center plans to begin engineering preparations for the launch of mass production of Sollers all-electric light commercial vehicles.
