Toyota announces debut of new Century premium SUV on September 6

Toyota, having turned the Crown into a whole family of cars, is going to do the same with the even more prestigious — century. Although the Japanese automaker does not directly hint at the release of an off-road version of the Century, it does say that the «presentation of the new model» will take place on September 6 on the official YouTube channel of the brand. This was told by the journalists of the publication SPEEDME.RU.

Despite the absence of direct statements, the only teaser image practically confirms that the upcoming model — It's a Century SUV. In the image, a driver wearing gloves prepares to open the back door. It is known that the traditional Century has always been focused on the comfort of the rear passengers, and Toyota, presumably, wants to keep this concept in the off-road version.

This is not the first teaser. Toyota originally showed the Century concept in the second half of June during the premiere of its Alphard and Vellfire minivans. It is likely that the new model could be a luxurious version of the Grand Highlander with a longer wheelbase.

The journalists of the Russian edition claim that the off-road Century will be equipped with a plug-in hybrid power plant. This technology is analogous to the Lexus TX 550h+. The latter has an electrified 3.5-liter V6 with a total output of 406 horsepower. It is worth recalling that the current version of the Century sedan is equipped with a V8, while the previous model had a powerful twelve-cylinder engine — it was the only V12 Toyota in production.
