Skoda introduced the Kodiaq in 2016, and this crossover underwent a restyling in 2021. Over the past few months, the manufacturer has been actively stirring up interest in this model, publishing official sketches, teasers and the first information about the future new product, and now the second generation Skoda Kodiaq has been completely declassified: the debut of the SUV took place in the format of an online presentation.

The next-generation Skoda Kodiaq became the first production car of the Czech brand, the design of which reflected elements of the new corporate identity demonstrated with the Vision 7S concept. The exterior of the model has been changed due to different stampings on the hood, head optics of a corrected shape and with a new “filling”, as well as an adjusted volumetric radiator grille, which is crossed by an optional dotted line, visually connecting the stripes of running lights.
Another new crossover received a different front bumper with a trapezoidal central air intake, as well as a rear bumper: the reflectors moved lower to a massive plastic trim. The models also changed the shape of the rear lights, making them sectional, and gave a new spoiler on the top of the tailgate and other roof rails. The manufacturer noted that the drag coefficient of the new product is 0.282.

During the generation change, the Kodiaq increased in length: it grew by 61 mm to 4758 mm, while the distance between the axles remained the same — 2791 mm. The width and height of the crossover, on the contrary, were reduced: to 1864 mm (by 18 mm) and to 1657 mm (by 4 mm), respectively. The company noted that the model has increased trunk volume, now for the five-seat version it is 910 liters (75 liters more), and for the seven-seat version (behind the third row) the figure is 340 liters (70 liters more).
The interior of the “second” Kodiaq was equipped with a 10-inch virtual instrument panel, which is complemented by a projection screen. The model also received a separately located central touchscreen of the infotainment system (the diagonal for the starting versions is 10 inches, for the top versions it is 13 inches). The new SUV also has “floating” door handles (on the inside), and the automatic transmission selector has moved from the central tunnel to the right side of the steering column.

The company also emphasized that there is no chrome in the interior of the crossover, and the textiles used for decoration are made either entirely from recycled polyester or 40% from natural wool. The kit traditionally includes an ice scraper and an umbrella, while the manufacturer emphasized that they are created “from environmentally friendly materials.”

The next generation Skoda Kodiaq, like the new Volkswagen Tiguan, is based on the MQB-Evo platform. The crossover of the Czech brand has five modifications, two of them are electrified. Thus, the SUV is offered with a 2.0-liter TDI turbodiesel engine, its power can be equal to either 150 or 193 hp, as well as with a 204-horsepower TSI petrol turbo-four of the same volume. All versions with a traditional internal combustion engine are paired with a seven-speed DSG automatic transmission; the more powerful diesel and petrol modifications have all-wheel drive.

The fourth option is a mild-hybrid power plant, which is based on a 1.5-liter TSI petrol engine with a power of 150 hp, complete with a 48-volt starter-generator. This version is also combined with 7DSG, but (like the “junior” diesel version) it has only a front-wheel drive.
Another option is a full-fledged PHEV version, which the current Skoda Kodiaq does not have. At the heart of the Kodiaq iV plug-in hybrid system is the same 1.5-liter petrol engine, which works in tandem with an electric motor; the total output is 204 hp. The system includes a 6DSG and a battery with a capacity of 25.7 kWh; the range without recharging when driving on electric power alone exceeds 100 km.
The second generation Skoda Kodiaq will go on sale in the European market in early 2024, prices will be announced later. The current crossover on the domestic market costs at least 1,069,900 CZK, and for the top version they ask for at least 1,399,900 CZK.
