The office of a Welsh Labor politician who spearheaded the introduction of a 20mph speed limit was attacked with fireworks.
Police say a man has been arrested in connection with damage to the office constituency Lee Waters, Welsh Undersecretary for Climate Change, in Llanelli.
The group allegedly smashed the windows of a south Wales office with crowbars and threw fireworks inside.
Mr Waters, who is responsible for introducing new speed limits, shares an office with Nia Griffith, the Labor MP. .
Wales has become the first UK country to introduce a 20mph speed limit on residential streets. Speeding carries a £100 fine and three points on your licence.
Damage to window glass
Mr Waters wrote on Facebook: «Masked criminals attacked our office in Llanelli and tried to set it on fire — they smashed windows with crowbars and threw fireworks before running away.»
Dyfed-Powys Police said . were called to a property in Pottery Street at around 1.30pm following reports of fireworks being set off outside the property.
A police spokesman said: “Police are investigating a report of fireworks being set off. A man was arrested outside the Labor constituency office in Llanelli.
“At around 1.30pm on October 1, Dyfed-Powys Police received a call that fireworks had been set off near the Labor constituency office. The window glass was damaged and there were burn marks on the front of the building.»
The Highway Traffic Law came into force on September 17 and many fear the lower limit will mean they will spend more on fuel and stay longer . in their cars due to increased travel times.
Mark Drakeford, the First Minister, said the legislation would save around 10 lives and prevent up to 2,000 injuries every year.
