Rory McIlroy gets into angry argument in Marco Simone Golf Club car park
Fred Parse, US Ryder Cup winner Captain named Rory McIlroy was «disrespectful» in his furious brawl with two American caddies during last weekend's competition.
The couples risked inflaming bad blood between the two teams by accusing the European talisman of «saying words that shouldn't be said» in front of Jim's wife «Bones» Mackay during the infamous altercation that spilled into the Marco Simone Golf and Country Club car park and almost reached the visitors' locker room.
McIlroy was angered by Joe LaCava joining the wild celebrations in the US after his player Patrick Cantlay made a brilliant birdie in the final, but the Northern Irishman and playing partner Matt Fitzpatrick were still putts in to level the match in a thrilling final in the four-ball contest.
There was also speculation that LaCava had stepped on McIlroy's line — standing between the ball and the hole — considered poor etiquette — before both European pairs missed shots.
Footage of Shane Lowry restraining McIlroy in the car park as he subsequently confronted Mackay went viral, with the former later revealing his teammate had to stop him from storming into the US dressing room.
He later said as much was «the angriest thing I've ever felt in my career» and after Europe's resounding victory it emerged that the incident had brought «an extra fire in the bellies» of Luke Donald's team.
«On the final green we felt disrespect,” added McIlroy, who won the singles event with Sam Burns. «We wanted to go out and hurt them.»

But speaking on his SiriusXM PGA Tour Radio show, Couples claimed it was McIlroy who was out of action.
The couple said: “He shouted at Bones, which is disrespectful, while his wife stood a foot away from him and said words that shouldn’t be said. Now I'm on Rory's side too because I love Rory McIlroy to death. But when you are angry and want to fight, you will say something. Is this disrespectful?
Recounting that he spoke to LaCava about the incident, he added: “I asked him what was said. He said Rory looked at him and said, «Mooo.» And he made that «ooh» last a little longer. And Joe replied: “Relax, Rory.”
“I want someone to tell me where everything that happened was disrespectful. I didn't see this. Patrick screamed, something he doesn't do often, and lifted his fake cap. We were all on the lawn. Nobody moved. We just took off our hats and drew little circles with them.
“Joe LaCava was standing [on the lawn]. I don't think he moved two feet. People think he shushed Rory when he made that hand gesture,” Parse said. “Little Harry Diamond, who we all love too, caddies for Rory, then he intervened. And Joe said, “I don't have time for you.”
“Then Joe turned to leave. ways. And Shane Lowry and [European vice-captain] Thomas Bjorn were shouting something at him, which is fine. I have no problem with Shane Lowry or Thomas Bjorn — they protect the No. 1 player on their team. But no one did anything wrong.
“He [LaCava] didn’t face him [McIlroy]. He didn't stand over him. In college football, it wouldn't be a 15-yard penalty for taunting. He said he was six feet away. Was Joe right? Probably no. Has anyone disrespected the European team?
