Subaru declassified WRX TR: redesigned suspension, different brakes and only mechanics

The “charged” four-door received technology from the “regular” WRX, we are talking about a 275-horsepower 2.4-liter turbo-four.

For the Japanese brand Subaru, one of the priority markets is the USA, so it is not surprising that the Americans were the first to get the current generation WRX sedan. Let us remind you that this model, which moved to the modular SGP (Subaru Global Platform) platform as part of the generation change, was presented in September 2021. By the way, until 2014 the car was sold under the name Impreza WRX, but then only the letter index remained.

The fact that the manufacturer is preparing the next “charged” version of its sedan became known last month, when, along with the announcement, the Subaru press service shared the first teaser. Now the “warmed up” version, called WRX TR, has been completely declassified, and the “live” premiere of this new product will take place tomorrow, October 7, as part of the Subiefest festival in Florida.

In fact, there are no visual differences: the model’s exterior is “standard”. It is worth noting that on the trunk lid of the American modification of the sports car there is no large wing, although fans were waiting for it, because earlier pictures of the version for the Australian market, which received this aerodynamic element, were leaked to the Internet.

The Subaru WRX TR has been deprived of an electric sunroof (the WRX Limited version has it), which lowers the center of gravity and also reduces the weight of the car. The new sports sedan is also equipped with a Brembo braking system, which includes red six-piston calipers at the front and two-piston calipers of the same color at the rear, as well as larger pads, rotors and the master cylinder. The company noted that this allowed the four-door to improve braking ability.

Subaru developers redesigned the sports sedan suspension and installed Stiffer springs, new shock absorbers, and also changed the steering settings. The WRX TR features 19-inch dark gray wheels wrapped in Bridgestone Potenza S007 tires. They are reported to have improved traction in all conditions.

The Subaru WRX TR's interior features a pair of Recaro sports bucket seats trimmed in microfiber with red contrast stitching. The sports sedan is also equipped with Subaru's EyeSight suite of driver assistants, which includes adaptive cruise control and a lane departure warning system.

The engine in the version with the TR increase remained the same as in the “regular” WRX: the “charged” four-door was equipped with a 275-horsepower 2.4-liter turbo-four, its maximum torque is 350 Nm. At the same time, the new sports sedan pairs this engine with only a six-speed manual transmission, although a CVT is also available for the “just” WRX. This model can only have all-wheel drive.

The new product will go on sale early next year. The Japanese manufacturer has not yet revealed the price tag of the Subaru WRX TR. Note that in the American market the cost of the current version of the WRX Limited sedan with manual transmission is $38,515.
