The Chinese state corporation Dongfeng Motor is preparing to launch a new premium brand eπ, its first model will be a mid-size sedan with the index 007 — the premiere is scheduled for November 6, and today official photos of the exterior were published.
Dongfeng intends to become a major player in the dynamically developing NEV segment of the Chinese car market, for which it decided to launch several new brands at once, by 2025 Dongfeng wants to reach the level sales of 1 million NEV vehicles per year. The abbreviation NEV, we recall, stands for New Energy Vehicle; it combines electric vehicles, plug-in hybrids and hydrogen vehicles.
< p>Dongfeng already has two full-fledged NEV brands — the well-known premium Voyah in Russia and the very fresh off-road Mengshi; two more were announced in August of this year — eπ and Nammi. The Nammi brand will produce relatively mass-produced and affordable electric cars, and eπ is another premium brand, but a little less pretentious than Voyah.
Historically, the eπ brand grew out of the Aeolus sub-brand: in 2018, Dongfeng presented a conceptual four-door coupe-cabriolet Aeolus eπ01, it never became serial, but the amusing name eπ came in handy. The first eπ model was shown in August in camouflaged form and with the factory index S73; this week the new product surfaced in the electronic database of the Chinese Ministry of Industry as eπ 007 (hello to James Bond), after which Dongfeng Motor published several official photos on the Chinese social network Weibo.< br />
From the dossier on the Ministry of Industry website we know that the overall length of the eπ 007 is 4880 mm, width — 1895 mm, height — 1460 mm, wheelbase — 2915 mm. Chinese magazine Autohome reports that the eπ 007 will be equipped with all-electric and plug-in hybrid powertrains of the range extender type, where the internal combustion engine is used as an electric range extender. Electric powertrains will be single- and dual-motor to choose from. The twin-engine all-wheel drive eπ 007 has engine power of 160 kW and 200 kW, for a total of 360 kW (489.5 hp).
The interior of the eπ 007 has not yet been declassified, and the appearance, as one can judge from the first photographs, is completely trivial, not standing out in any way against the background of dozens of other similar Chinese NEV models. We have already seen lifting front doors of the butterfly wing type on the Hozon Neta S and Aion Hyper GT sedans — they are likely to be the main competitors of the eπ 007 on the market.

We will learn more details about eπ 007 after the official premiere on November 6, sales should begin before the end of this year. The second eπ model will be a mid-size crossover with the factory designation S59; for now you can only admire it in a camouflage wrap.
