The refreshed SUV of the Spanish brand is trying to get rid of the influence of Seat. The debut of the SUV is scheduled for the middle of next year.
The Cupra brand separated from Seat in 2018; the Ateca crossover, which was a modernized version of the same SUV from Seat, became the first-born of the new brand at the same time. Later, another model appeared, its role was played by the “redesigned” new Leon. The first model exclusively Cupra was the Formentor crossover, which debuted in early March 2020.

Despite the fact that this particular car is considered the first “100%” Cupra model, the influence of the parent brand on the design still turned out to be very noticeable. Now the model is approaching a planned update, the development of a refreshed version is in full swing: previously, spy photographers had already caught camouflaged prototypes of the facelifted Formentor during road tests.
Now the Spanish manufacturer continues to test the future new product: colleagues from the Spanish publication Motor.es shared with us a fresh batch of images of the prototype of the refreshed Cupra Formentor. As you can see in the photo, the crossover has begun to shed its camouflage: for example, now you can already see the LED head optics that the updated crossover will receive.
The headlights of the refreshed Formentor have a slightly changed shape and a new “filling” with a pattern of three luminous triangles. The serial Cupra Tavascan SUV, which debuted in April of this year, received similar lighting technology. The remaining details of the front part are still hidden behind a disguise, but it is already clear that the crossover will have a new radiator grille and other air intakes integrated into the lower part of the front bumper.
During the facelift, the SUV will also receive its share of new things. It is possible that the lights will still be connected by a strip across the entire width of the stern, but their shape and pattern can be adjusted. The updated Formentor is expected to have dynamic turn signals. In general, the exterior of the model should move away from the Seat “heritage”; it is expected that it will reflect Cupra's corporate identity.
Photo spies have not yet been able to look into the interior of the refreshed crossover, any official information about what changes the interior will undergo, on not at the moment either. It is expected that the interior of the Formentor will be updated, including due to new decorative elements and other upholstery materials, and the list of equipment will be supplemented with various driver assistants and security systems.

According to preliminary data, the updated crossover will receive a revised installation, which will be based on the same 1.4-liter TSI gasoline engine, working in tandem with an electric motor and a small-capacity battery. It is expected that after modernization, the SUV's range will increase by several kilometers when driving only on electric power (currently 50 km). The total output of the system will obviously remain the same, currently 245 hp. (400 Nm). The new product will debut in the middle of next year.
