Under the Nammi brand, the Chinese state corporation Dongfeng will sell relatively affordable, but modern and stylish electric cars. The first model will be the subcompact hatchback Nammi 01, shamelessly copying the aesthetics of the latest smart models.
Dongfeng is rapidly losing ground in the Chinese market: sales of cars under the same brand in January-September of this year collapsed by 51.4% (compared to sales in January-September 2022) to 159,213 units, but the corporation is striving to make up for the rapidly growing NEV segment and launches new brands in it (the abbreviation NEV stands for New Energy Vehicle; it combines electric vehicles, plug-in hybrids and hydrogen vehicles). Dongfeng already has two full-fledged NEV brands — the premium Voyah, well-known in Russia, and the off-road Mengshi; two more brands were announced in August — eπ and Nammi, with their help Dongfeng wants to reach a sales level of 1 million NEV vehicles by 2025 per year.

Nammi should become the most popular brand in Dongfeng's NEV range. Previously, Nammi was a sub-brand under which variations on the theme of the electric cross-hatchback Dacia Spring were sold (production of the Romanian model was established at the Dongfeng plant in Shiyan, China); in the status of a full-fledged brand, Nammi will offer slightly more solid and modern, but at the same time relatively affordable and widespread electric cars. This week the presentation of the Nammi 01 hatchback took place, it will hit the market before the end of this year, then Nammi will present 1-2 new products per year in order to reach a sales level of 400,000 cars per year by 2025.

There are still few technical details about Nammi 01: it is known that the hatchback is based on the Dongfeng Quantum Architecture 3 modular platform. A single electric motor is located at the front and rotates the front wheels, its power in the basic version will be 70 kW (95 hp). The rear suspension of Nammi 01 is semi-independent, with a transverse torsion beam. All wheels are equipped with disc brakes. The overall length of the hatchback is 4030 mm, width is 1810 mm, height is 1570 mm, wheelbase is 2660 mm. The side doors have frameless glass. Standard wheels are 16-inch.

A correspondent for the Chinese magazine Autohome clicked a lot of photos of the Nammi 01, so now we can take a good look at it. It is easy to notice that, outside and inside, Nammi 01 freely copies the aesthetics of the Chinese-German crossover smart #1 (the smart brand is now under the control of the Geely holding) and even tries to outdo it in premium quality: the interior is completely upholstered in leather (or leatherette), and in the door panels and on the front panel this leather is quilted. The glove compartment section is visually fastened with contrasting black straps, and the glove compartment itself is designed as a pull-out organizer tray. Meanwhile, the rear seats look cheap: the outer headrests are integral and not adjustable, and there is no central one at all (although there is a belt for the central passenger). The back of the rear sofa is not divided into parts; when it is folded, a step is formed in the trunk.
