The production of SUVs will be established at a Brazilian plant, and they will also begin to make a new turbo engine there.
The Nissan company with pompously announced an increase in investment in its industrial site located near Rio de Janeiro: the plant will receive another $540 million. These injections will be used, among other things, to organize the release of two new crossovers. In addition, a certain turbo engine will be produced in Brazil.
One of the SUVs has already been named — this is the compact Nissan Kicks of the next, second generation. Let us remind you that the current model has been in service since 2016; it is made at a Brazilian plant. However, current Kix is also produced in other countries: among them, for example, Mexico, China and Thailand. The “first” crossover underwent restyling in 2020. The new Kicks had already been caught during testing — of course, they were camouflaged samples. However, the camouflage could not hide the grille in the style of other fresh Nissans — the restyled X-Trail/Rogue, the Almera/Versa sedan and the Chinese Pathfinder.

About the other new SUV, all that has been said so far is that Brazilian-made cars are planned to be supplied to more than 20 countries in Latin America. Some local media believe that it will be either a Nissan Juke or a simplified version of it. There is also a version that they will position the once again modernized “first” Kicks as a new crossover – apparently, with a different name. Although we should not forget that Renault, Nissan’s alliance partner, has just introduced the Kardian SUV in Brazil, the closest relative of which is the Dacia Sandero Stepway cross-hatch. In general, it is possible that this upcoming SUV of the Japanese brand will turn out to be a “French” makeover.

As for the turbo engine, it is likely that both announced SUVs will be equipped with it. But the engine characteristics have not yet been disclosed. Note that the current Brazilian-assembled Kicks is equipped with a 1.6 aspirated engine. By the way, the Renault Kardian mentioned above has a 1.0 turbocharger.
The new generation Nissan Kicks crossover may premiere as early as next year, although it is expected on the Brazilian market only in 2025. The second SUV should go on sale by 2026.
