“Do you know why they don't have a drug problem? Death penalty for drug traffickers.

“If you want to solve your drug problem, you have to have a meaningful death penalty.”

Mr. Trump has previously called for the death penalty for drug traffickers , although that would apply to Alice Johnson, the woman whose 21-year sentence he commuted as president in 2018.

Mr Trump repeated his praise for Xi Jinping later during the rally, reflecting on that no Hollywood actor could do him justice.

“There is no one in Hollywood who could play the role of President Xi Jinping – his look, his strength, his voice,” he said.
