    Government reshuffles: who will come in, who will leave

    Rishi Sunak sacked his home secretary and appointed David Cameron to a senior cabinet post, shaking up his top team.

    Suella Braverman, as expected, went first after sparking a political storm last week by saying the Metropolitan Police were “playing favorites” with protesters.

    In a shocking turn of events, that the former prime minister – now Lord Cameron as he has become a life peer – has become the new foreign secretary after a seven-year break from front-line politics.

    Who came out?

    After almost a week of wondering about her fate, Rishi Sunak decided that these were curtains for Suella Braverman.

    The outgoing home secretary sparked an almighty scandal by claiming police were biased against the “pro-Palestinian mafia” ahead of the Armistice Day march.

    Her remarks – in a Times article – were accused of incitement to violence by far-right counter-protesters on Saturday.

    After another bout of fiery rhetoric on Sunday, Ms Braverman became the first to be ousted in Monday's personnel reshuffle.

    A No 10 source said: “Suella has left because the Prime Minister wants a cohesive team to deliver the changes this country needs in the long term.”

    Ms Braverman said: “For me it was the greatest It has been the privilege of my life to serve as Minister of the Interior. In time I will say more.”

    The Schools Minister has said he has quit government and will not stand in the next general election.

    “I have been discussing taking on a diplomatic role after the general election over the past few weeks,” said the MP for Bognor Regis and Littlehampton.

    “To be able to do this, I asked the Prime Minister if I could to leave the government after the reshuffle, and he agreed.”

    He added: “I campaigned for Rishi last summer and remain an enthusiastic supporter of the Prime Minister's leadership.”

    The Health Secretary has announced he is resigning.

    Mr O'Brien tweeted: “It has been a great honor to serve at DHSC. Great ministerial team and shovels and some amazing officials.

    But with so much going on at the local level, I want to focus 100 percent on constituency outreach, so I've asked me to move to the back bench. I would also really like to see our two small children more often (illustrations attached).”

    The Health Secretary and MP for Colchester has resigned from his government role.

    He was already planning to step down as an MP at the next election.

    He tweeted: “I asked the Prime Minister to allow me to resign as Minister of State at DHSCgovuk and he kindly agreed. I would like to thank all the brilliant public servants with whom it has been an honor and privilege to work with me.”

    Mr Norman has left his post as Minister for Decarbonisation and Technology at the Department of Transport.

    He tweeted: “Very grateful to the Prime Minister for accepting my resignation. With the ZEV mandate passed and the Automated Vehicles Bill drafted, now is the time to step down. We look forward to more freedom on the #Wye election campaign and other important local and national issues!”

    Theresa Coffey resigned as environment minister, saying she believed “now is the right time to step away from government.”In Mr Sunak's resignation letter, she said: “I look forward to supporting you from the backbenches and working together for a Conservative majority at the next election, which I believe is deeply in the national interest.”

    < p>Liz Truss's former deputy prime minister was appointed to Mr Sunak's cabinet when he took the reins at No 10.

    Jeremy Queen has resigned as a Cabinet Office minister, suggesting he has turned down an alternative role in Mr Sunak's reshuffle.

    He said in a resignation letter sent to the Prime Minister: “Thank you for your time this morning and for the assurance that I can continue to serve in government. However, I have decided to step back and concentrate on projects in Horsham.”

    George Freeman resigned from government with a “heavy heart.”

    In a letter to Mr Sunak, he wrote: “As agreed with the Chief Whip in September, it is with a heavy heart that I have decided to resign.” from the government and resign as UK Minister of State for Science, Technology & Innovation.”

    Rachel McLean has been sacked as Housing and Planning Minister.

    She tweeted: “I have been asked to resign as Housing Minister. Disappointed and looking forward to bringing the Tenant Reform Bill to committee tomorrow and the Tenancy and Freehold Bill later. It has been a great honor to serve in this position and I wish my successor every success.”

    The MP for Sutton and Cheam has been sacked as London and Small Business Secretary.

    Who's inside?

    Former Prime Minister appointed Foreign Secretary, number 10 confirmed.

    He became a life peer to take up the position.His arrival in Downing Street at around 9am this morning stunned Westminster. He has been absent from the political scene for more than seven years since leaving No 10 in July 2016 following the Brexit referendum.

    Mr Cleverley has become the new home secretary, replacing Ms Braverman, Downing Street has confirmed.

    Essentially a move to side of the Foreign Office, as another of the four great offices of government.

    Chancellor Jeremy Hunt remains in his post, Downing Street has confirmed.

    Steve Barclay has been demoted from Health Secretary to Environment Secretary.

    The move has been confirmed by Downing Street. He will replace Teresa Coffey, who left the cabinet.

    Victoria Atkins has been appointed health secretary, replacing Steve Barclay.

    The former finance minister's new appointment has been confirmed by Number 10.

    Richard Holden has been appointed chairman of the Conservative Party and minister without portfolio, replacing Greg Hands.

    The former roads minister's decision was announced by the Conservatives on Twitter.

    Laura Trott has been appointed as Chief Secretary to the Treasury.

    The former pensions secretary will succeed John Glen.

    Greg Hands has been replaced as Tory party chairman and appointed business minister.

    John Glen succeeds Jeremy Quin as Treasurer General and Ms Trott takes over as Chief Secretary to the Treasury.

    Lee Rowley replaced Rachel Maclean as Housing Secretary after she was sacked by Mr Sunak.

    He was previously Locals Minister self-government.

    The MP for Tatton has been appointed as a Cabinet Minister.

    A Downing Street spokesman said: “The King was pleased to confirm the appointment of the Right Honorable Esther McVeigh MP as a minister without portfolio in the Cabinet Office. She will be present in the Cabinet of Ministers.”

    Andrea Leadsom has been appointed junior health secretary after three years out of government.

    The former Conservative leadership contender has served as energy secretary, environment minister and at the Treasury.

    Paul Maynard has become a junior minister at the Department of Work and Pensions.

    Between 2016 and 2020, he held a number of government positions, working in the departments of justice and transport.

    Keighley MP Robbie Moore has been appointed junior minister in the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.

    Elected just four years ago, he has never served in government, although he has served on a number of committees scrutinizing animal welfare and welfare bills.

    Guy Opperman was transferred to a trucking company after more than six years with the Department of Labor and Labor; Pensions.

    The Hexham MP tweeted: “Spent almost 8 years as Whip, Pensions Minister and Employment Minister under 4 Prime Ministers. It is an honor to serve.

    “Moved department but just packed up and thanked my amazing personal office team.”

    Bim Afolami, MP for Hitchen and Harpenden, was appointed economic finance minister, his first government position.

    Elected in 2017 year, he has sat on the Business and Commerce Committee since October last year.

    Gareth Bacon, who previously led the Conservatives in the London Assembly, became justice secretary.

    This is his first government post since his election as MP for Orpington in 2019. .

    Sakib Bhatti, Member of Parliament for Meriden, has been appointed to a ministerial position in the new Department of Science, Innovation and Technology.

    The former accountant has taken his seat on the Foreign Affairs Committee since November last year.

    Former BBC correspondent Anthony Brown has been appointed as transport secretary.

    The South Cambridgeshire MP studied mathematics at Cambridge but said that after graduating he ” lured away the world of journalism.” He has not previously worked in government.

    Laura Farris, MP for Newbury, became Home Secretary and Justice Secretary.

    The former lawyer sat on several prominent parliamentary committees, scrutinizing the work of both of its new departments.

    Northern Ireland Affairs Committee chairman Simon Hoare has been appointed minister in the Department for Equalization, Housing and Communities.

    The North Dorset MP will have to give up his chairmanship now that he is in government.
