The American company Lucid presented its long-awaited second model at the Los Angeles Auto Show – the large and powerful electric crossover Gravity, its production will begin at the end of next year.
The American company Lucid has existed since 2007, but it was able to launch its first model – the large electric sedan Air – only in 2021 and production volumes are still modest: this year the company's main plant is in the city of Casa Grande (USA, Arizona) will produce no more than 8,500 cars. Meanwhile, last month Lucid launched a second plant in the city of Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, with a design capacity of as many as 150,000 cars per year. The fact is that the main shareholder of Lucid is the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia (PIF), the Saudi Arabian government intends to purchase up to 100,000 Lucid electric vehicles over the next ten years, so demand for the product is guaranteed. The plans also include more affordable and mass-produced models than the luxurious Air sedan and the equally luxurious Gravity crossover presented today.
< p>The prototype of the Gravity crossover was first seen on the roads in the summer of 2020, that is, even before the launch of the Air sedan into series, but the official premiere took place only yesterday at the Los Angeles Auto Show, and production of the Lucid Gravity will begin only at the end of 2024, that is, for those who wish You will have to wait at least another year to purchase it. Lucid explains the long development of Gravity by the fact that, in fact, a new platform with a 900-volt electrical architecture was created for it; the company uses many solutions regarding electric motors, batteries, software and electronics on this model for the first time.
Overall length of Lucid Gravity is 5034 mm, width is 1999 mm, height is 1656 mm, wheelbase is 3035 mm. The claimed drag coefficient cx is 0.24, which is a very good result for a large SUV. There are no details about the chassis, we only know that adaptive air suspension with adjustable ground clearance will be offered as an option. The standard wheel size is from 20 to 23 inches.

There is also little information about the Gravity power plant: it is known that its power will exceed 800 hp, acceleration to 100 km/h will take about 3.5 seconds, and the range on one charge will be more than 700 km according to the EPA cycle. The battery capacity is not named (according to InsideEVs magazine – about 120 kWh), but the company reports that the high-voltage architecture will allow, when charging at a powerful terminal (from 300 kW), to increase the range by 322 km in just 15 minutes. The crossover's carrying capacity is more than 680 kg, the permissible weight of the towed trailer is 2.72 tons.

The Lucid Gravity's interior is designed for seven passengers; its design is in many ways reminiscent of the interior design of the Lucid Air sedan, but many elements are made differently. For example, a panoramic 34-inch display with 6K resolution in the crossover is located above the flattened steering wheel, and not behind it, the design of the additional multimedia display on the center console has been changed, and the graphical interface has been significantly updated. The standard audio system has 22 loudspeakers.
The roof is almost entirely transparent, there is only a crossbar above the headrests of the front seats. The seats in the second and third rows fold to create a cargo space of 3,171 liters, and in the front of the crossover there is an additional trunk with a volume of 226 liters, which can be used as a two-seater bench when open.

For now Lucid isn't even taking pre-orders for the Gravity crossover, but says its minimum price will be $80,000 when production starts next year. Apparently, Lucid marketers took the Tesla Model X crossover as a price guide, the minimum price of which is now $79,990 in the United States.
