The sixth generation crossover retained the platform of its predecessor, but it was modified. In its main market, the model will initially still be available with no alternative aspirated, and a hybrid will appear later.
The Subaru company presented the new, sixth generation Forester cross at the Los Angeles Auto Show. Interestingly, branded photos of the SUV leaked to the Internet a week before the premiere, and it managed to collect mixed reviews: some liked the design, while others began to compare it with other models, and not the most recent models. Let us note that the “fifth” Subaru Forester in the States is still in the black: from January to October of this year, 121,824 units were sold. (+33%). Well, let us remind you that the previous generation crossover has been in service since 2018; it underwent restyling two years ago.

The forester retained the SGP (Subaru Global Platform) “cart”, but it was modified. In particular, the torsional rigidity of the body has been increased by 10% (due to the use of new welding technology, the total length of the adhesive joints has also increased), the platform also has reinforced suspension mounts. The company also announced a reconfiguration of the steering mechanism (an electric booster is installed on the rack).

The length of the Subaru Forester increased by 15 mm to 4656 mm (all dimensions are relevant for the model in American specification), the width increased by 13 mm to 1829 mm. The height and wheelbase have not changed — 1730 and 2670 mm, respectively (height including roof rails). The ground clearance also remains the same — 221 mm.
Exterior features include optics fused with the radiator grille, angular wheel arches and taillights with a complex filling, which are also united by a black plate. The head optics consists of two blocks: the upper part contains the running lights and turn signals, and below are the headlights themselves. The front fenders have grilles through which air is vented from the arches. The Sport version (white car in the photo) has bronze-colored decor. Depending on the model version, 17-, 18- or 19-inch wheels are installed.

The main new thing inside is the vertical tablet of the multimedia system (11.6 inches). However, such a screen is included only in rich trim levels, while other options have a pair of separate 7-inch displays, the lower of which is responsible for climate control. The virtual tidy of the Subaru Forester was never received. But the list of equipment has been supplemented by ventilation of the front seats and a contactless trunk opening system (just move your foot under the bumper). The brand also announced improved sound insulation of the cabin, and in addition, the crossover got more comfortable seats. Trunk volume is 838 liters versus 818 liters for the previous Lesnik (according to the American EPA method). With the second row folded, this figure will increase to 2107 liters (the previous model has 2101 liters).

Of course, the Forester still has the EyeSight security system in its arsenal; it has been modernized. Thus, electronics recognize pedestrians and cyclists faster, an electric brake booster and a full-fledged all-round visibility system have appeared. In addition, there is a system that will turn on the emergency lights, smoothly stop the crossover and unlock the doors if the driver has lost consciousness and does not respond to warnings.

In the States, the Subaru Forester will initially be available with almost the same 2.5 naturally aspirated boxer engine. “Almost” — because the power was slightly reduced: from 185 to 183 hp. At the same time, the torque, on the contrary, increased – 241 Nm instead of 239 Nm. The engine is combined with a Lineatronic V-chain variator, and the crossover is all-wheel drive by default. In about a year, a hybrid Forester will appear in the United States. By the way, outside the American market, a hybrid installation has long been provided for the model, plus in other countries Lesnik is equipped with a turbo engine.

The start of sales in America is scheduled for spring 2024, prices have not yet been announced. The previous generation Subaru Forester now costs $27,095 there (excluding taxes and delivery).
Later, Subaru will introduce a new cross designed for other markets.
