GAC officially announced new products for the Russian market

The local model line of the “celestial” brand will be replenished with three cars next year — a pair of crossovers and a minivan.

The Chinese brand GAC is going to strengthen its position in the Russian Federation. The current local model line consists of the GS5 SUV and the large GS8 crossover (the new generation SUV reached Russian dealers last summer). Today it became known that GAC plans to become one of the main automobile brands in Russia; for this purpose, the brand is going, in particular, to expand the line of models presented on the car market.

A new addition to the family is scheduled for next year: the company said that the GAC M8 premium minivan will enter the Russian market approximately in March. So far, all that is known about the specifications of this model for the Russian Federation is that the minivan will be presented in three trim options and four color schemes. Details about the technology will appear later, closer to the start of sales. Let us remind you that previously there was a previous generation minivan (named GN8) in the local lineup; now there is no such model on the official website.

The current generation GAC M8 debuted in China in late summer 2022. On the domestic market, the model is presented in standard and top-end versions (they differ, among other things, due to the exterior design), in the first case the length is 5193 mm, in the second – 5212 mm. The distance between the axles is the same — 3070 mm. The front panel houses a 12.3-inch virtual instrument panel, and the diagonal of the horizontal tablet of the infotainment system is 14.6 inches. The salon is seven-seater, seating formula is 2+2+3.

In China, the minivan is offered with a 2.0-liter TGDI turbo engine, its output is 252 hp and maximum torque is 390 Nm; it is paired with an eight-speed Aisin automatic transmission. There is also a hybrid version of the M8 on the domestic market, the installation is based on a 2.0-liter engine (190 hp and 320 Nm), working in tandem with an electric motor (181 hp and 270 Nm), as well as with an electromechanical CVT THS (Toyota Hybrid System), which GAC got as part of a joint venture with a Japanese company.

The Russian GAC line will be complemented by the GS3 crossover, which is based on the modular platform GPMA (Global Platform Modular Architecture). The local representative office of the brand noted that the Russian premiere will take place in the second quarter of next year. The company has not yet disclosed details about this SUV.

As Kolesa.ru previously reported, the second-generation GAC GS3 compact crossover, introduced at the end of 2022, is available on the domestic market. Its overall length is 4410 mm (4446 mm for the R-Style version), and the wheelbase is 2650 mm. On the domestic market, the SUV is offered with a 1.5-liter petrol turbo-four, its output is 177 hp and maximum torque is 270 Nm. It comes complete with a seven-speed robot with two clutches.

The third new product in the Russian model line will be an as yet unnamed car in the SUV segment, which is only known to debut in the third quarter of 2024. It is possible that the Chinese manufacturer will bring to the Russian Federation a three-row crossover GAC ES9 (with two design options), created on the basis of the already presented GS8. This model is presented only as a rechargeable hybrid. The system includes a 2.0 petrol turbo-four (190 hp), a 182-horsepower electric motor and a battery with a capacity of 25.57 kWh. The internal combustion engine can operate as a generator to recharge the battery, and can also be connected to the wheels through a two-stage DHT transmission, in this case the total output of the installation is 373 hp. (630 Nm). The range when driving on electric power alone is 110 km (calculated using the WLTC cycle).
