The young Vietnamese automaker VinFast has launched its sixth electric model on the home market — the compact crossover VF 7, it is offered in two versions — front-wheel drive Base and all-wheel drive Plus.
The VinFast company was founded in 2017 by Vietnamese noodle magnate Pham Nhat Vuong. It started with licensed “hydrocarbon” models, but quickly switched to “electric trains” of its own design, or rather electric crossovers of various sizes. VinFast VF 7 became the sixth in the electric range, it belongs to the most popular compact class in the world: overall length — 4545 mm, width — 1890 mm, height — 1636 mm, wheelbase — 2840 mm, ground clearance — 190 mm. The Italian studio Torino Design was responsible for the design of the Vietnamese new product.

The basic version of the Base crossover VinFast VF 7 has a single electric motor on the front axle (177 hp, 250 Nm) and a battery with a capacity of 59.6 kWh, its full charge is enough for 375 km of range in the WLTP cycle. The Base version accelerates to 100 km/h in 10 seconds, and the maximum speed is 150 km/h.
The Plus all-wheel drive version is equipped with a dual-engine power plant, the maximum total output of which is 354 hp. and 500 Nm, battery capacity — 75.3 kWh, range on one charge — 431 km. The twin-engine crossover reaches the first hundred in 5.8 seconds, with a top speed of 175 km/h.

The standard equipment of the VinFast VF 7 is quite rich: there are 8 airbags and modern electronic driver assistants (including an automatic emergency braking system). The central multimedia tablet with a 12.9-inch screen is facing the driver. There is no separate instrument screen, but there is a projector of operational readings on the windshield.
VinFast VF 7 costs in Vietnam from 850 million dong or approximately $35,000 in the US at current exchange rates, but this price does not include the battery; it must be rented. With a battery, the crossover in the Base version will cost $41,000, in the Plus version — $49,000. Shipments of ordered vehicles to customers will begin next year.
We would like to add that despite the wide model range , VinFast has not yet become a leading player even in the domestic car market: according to the BestSellingCarsBlog resource, in the first ten months of this year VinFast sold 21,480 cars in Vietnam, which is 19% more than in the previous period. For comparison, let's say that Hyundai sold 48,626 cars (-24.6%) in this country during the same period, Kia — 45,404 units. (-37.1%), Toyota — 42,531 units. (-41.6%), Ford — 29,548 units. (+51.3%), Mazda — 27,791 units. (-7.5%), Mitsubishi — 24,103 units. (-27.8%).
VinFast’s expansion into the US and European markets, which began last year, is stalling; regular deliveries of cars have not begun. The VinFast brand has not yet officially arrived in Russia, although there were such plans.
In the near future, the VinFast electric line should be replenished with a junior crossover VF 3 with an angular three-door body.
