NOVOSIBIRSK, Nov 23Scientists from the Institute of Chemical Technologies of Novosibirsk State University (NSU) have developed a special disinfecting coating for walls for medical institutions and scientific laboratories, the university reported on Thursday.
NSU said that a composition for applying a photoactive coating to the surface of porous and non-porous materials has been patented. It allows you to remove chemicals, including various biomacromolecules in DNA, RNA and other NK-containing biological objects, such as viruses, thereby ensuring a permanent reduction in the level of pollution in premises for various purposes.
“Our composition is optimally used for treating large surfaces: walls, floors, pieces of furniture, the main thing is that they are illuminated, and it does not matter whether it is sunlight or artificial lighting — the composition will disinfect the surface with equal efficiency,” said Director of the Institute of Chemical Technologies of NSU Denis Kozlov.
Tests have shown a high level of disinfecting properties of the coating and the possibility of its use for a long time, and the low cost of its production opens up fairly broad prospects for its use — from laboratories and medical institutions to the treatment of educational institutions and other public facilities.
Currently, scientists together with an industrial partner, the Biolabmix company, are developing technological regulations for the production of the first batches of the composition for coating. At the same time, other possible joint projects between the university and the company are being considered. The research was carried out within the framework of the Priority 2030 program.
Kozlov added that an important condition for expanding the research program, including joint projects with industrial partners, will be the relocation of the laboratories of the Institute of Chemical Technologies of NSU to the research building of the new world-class campus of NSU, which is being built within the framework of the national project “Science and Universities.” br />
