MOSCOW, November 24 The Supreme Court of the Donetsk People's Republic sentenced the Ukrainian marine who killed a wounded prisoner of war to 25 years in prison, the DPR prosecutor's office reported.
“»The Supreme Court of the Donetsk People's Republic passed a verdict in a criminal case against a 29-year-old soldier of the engineer platoon of the 501st separate battalion of the Marine Corps of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Maxim Babich… The court sentenced Babich to 25 years in prison to serve the sentence in a correctional facility maximum security colony,» the prosecutor's office said.
The court found that from March 20 to April 4, 2022, Babich was on the territory of the Mariupol Metallurgical Plant named after Ilyich. One day, together with commander Oleg Zavaletsky, Babich beat a wounded prisoner of war to death, the body was then thrown into a hole and buried.
Babich was found guilty under paragraph. «f», «l» part 2 tbsp. 105 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (murder committed by an organized group, motivated by political, ideological hatred), Part 1 of Art. 356 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (cruel treatment of prisoners of war in occupied territory).
The court previously sentenced Zavaletsky to 30 years in a maximum security colony.
