Otkritie Bank (part of the VTB Group) has introduced automatic passport recognition technology for on-site customer service. This allows you to speed up the identification process and make the issuance of bank cards even more comfortable. A software solution based on artificial intelligence was developed by the Russian company Smart Engines.
When receiving an Otkritie Bank card, the client must present a Russian passport, and the bank representative must check his data with the application. After the introduction of technology, the process has become simpler — the bank representative now only needs to photograph the main page of the passport. The snapshot is sent to the server in Otkrytie, where all the necessary information is automatically recognized and the correctness of the data entered by the client when filling out the application is checked. Image processing time is less than one second. It is expected that the use of Smart ID Engine for field service will speed up the process of issuing cards by 15–20%.
The document recognition system has been implemented into the internal information circuit of the bank. Images of documents and passport data of clients are not transferred in any form to third-party services — processing is carried out autonomously, which ensures confidentiality and eliminates the risk of personal data leakage.
Smart Engines recognition systems are a completely Russian development, they use proprietary OCR technology. The Smart ID Engine software product is included in the register of Russian programs.
