VORONEZH, November 24 Three leading actresses decided to leave the Voronezh Chamber Theater after the dismissal of its creator and artistic director Mikhail Bychkov, according to the theater’s Telegram channel.
The regional government announced Bychkov’s dismissal on Tuesday. It was noted that the dismissal “took place by decision of the founder,” which is the Ministry of Culture of the Voronezh Region. The theater staff then issued an open letter in which they defended the artistic director, calling the decision to fire him a mistake. The Ministry of Culture of the Voronezh Region stated that Bychkov's dismissal will not affect the creative component of the institution.
“Natalya Shevchenko, Tatyana Babenkova and Yana Kuzina are leaving the Voronezh Chamber Theater. On November 21, by decision of the Ministry of Culture of the Voronezh Region, the founder and artistic director of the Chamber Theater, Mikhail Bychkov, was fired, in connection with this, three leading actresses decided to leave the theater,” the message says.
It is noted that Babenkova played on the stage of the Chamber Theater as a guest artist, Shevchenko and Kuzina are on staff and wrote letters of resignation.
«Since all tickets for the performances of the Chamber Theater for November and December have been sold out, Natalya Shevchenko and Yana Kuzina agreed to take part in them as guest performers,» the theater added.
Created in 1993, the Chamber Theater is the leading theater in Voronezh. Bychkov was the permanent director of the theater. The performances of the Chamber Theater have been repeatedly nominated for the Golden Mask theater award.
