Toyota Hilux Champ is the production version of the IMV 0 concept from a year ago. In Thailand, the Hilux Champ is offered with petrol and diesel engines at very attractive prices, but so far it is only rear-wheel drive.
In concept status, the IMV 0 truck (the name stands for Innovative International Multi-purpose Vehicle Zero) was first presented in December last year as part of the celebration of the 60th anniversary of the Thai division of Toyota; this year it toured at the Indonesia Motor Show and the Japan Mobility Show in Tokyo, and today a serial version under the name Hilux Champ was presented in Thailand, mass production of the new product will also be launched here.
The IMV 0 project was created with an eye on developing markets as a more affordable and at the same time more flexible in terms of design alternative to the well-known Hilux frame pickup truck in the Russian Federation. The Hilux Champ truck also has a frame structure, the front suspension is independent spring on double wishbones, the rear suspension is dependent spring; steering mechanism — rack and pinion type; the front wheels are equipped with ventilated disc brakes, the rear wheels are equipped with drum brakes.
The power plants of the IMV 0/Hilux Champ can theoretically be diesel, gasoline, gas, hybrid and fully electric; cab — single-row, double-row and one-and-a-half, drive — rear or full, but the Thai version of the truck is currently only available with purely “hydrocarbon” power plants, a single-row cab and rear-wheel drive, although on the local consumer website there are already lines for power in the technical data plate electric motors.
The overall length of a standard Toyota Hilux Champ flatbed truck is 4705 or 5300 mm, wheelbase is 2750 or 3085 mm, width is 1785 mm, height is 1735 mm. Load capacity — 1 ton. Standard wheels — 14-inch. The fuel tank capacity is 55 liters.
The Hilux Champ will be available not only as a pickup truck with a flatbed platform, but also as a chassis with a cab: any add-on can be installed on this chassis to create a food truck or mobile stall , ambulance, camper, dump truck, etc.
There are two gasoline engines to choose from — 2.0 liters (139 hp, 183 Nm) and 2.7 liters (166 hp, 245 Nm), only one diesel engine — 2.4 liters (150 hp. , 400 Nm), transmission — 5-speed manual or 6-speed hydromechanical automatic.

The cabin design of the Hilux Champ is made in the style of classic Toyota SUVs — for example, the recently updated Land Cruiser 70. The interior is also old school and simple as a drum: there is not even a tachometer on the analog instrument panel, the sun visor is only for the driver. Standard equipment, however, includes two front airbags, ABS, air conditioning and electric windows.

The basic short-wheelbase Toyota Hilux Champ with a 2.0-liter gasoline engine and manual transmission costs 459,000 in Thailand baht (1.16 million rubles translated at the current exchange rate), the most expensive diesel with automatic transmission is 577,000 baht (1.46 million rubles). It turns out that for residents of Thailand, a brand new Toyota Hilux Champ will cost less than a UAZ Pickup for Russians, prices for which only start at 1.46 million rubles. The purely commercial UAZ Profi, which is more correctly compared with the Toyota Hilux Champ, is even more expensive — from 1.49 million rubles.
