The all-electric SUV of the Chinese brand will debut on the Russian car market in the first quarter of next year.
Omoda in China market is one of the “mother” Chery series, while in some other markets, including Russia, Omoda is a separate brand. The brand's first product in the Russian Federation was the C5 crossover (you can learn more about this car from our test drive), its sales started last fall. The second model was the S5 sedan, which joined the lineup in the spring of 2023, and in September the sports version of the four-door, the S5 GT, also entered the market. In the future, the local model range will be replenished with another new product — Omoda E5.

The company noted that the Omoda E5 is the brand’s first all-electric model. In fact, this is a “green” version of the C5 crossover already presented on the Russian market. This new product was announced for the Russian Federation (under the name C5 EV) back in June, it was assumed that it would go on sale at the end of this year. Now the local representative office of Omoda said that this SUV will reach dealers in the Russian Federation in the first quarter of 2024; the company will announce a more precise date for the premiere later.
There is still little information about the “filling” of the electric crossover: it is known that the battery consumption is 15.5 kW/h per 100 km. The battery capacity at the local Omoda office is still kept secret, but it is known that the range on one charge of the E5 is 430 km (the company did not specify which cycle the calculation was based on). It is also known that the Omoda E5 can use fast charging technology, as a result the SUV can replenish the traction battery from 20 to 80% in 30 minutes.
Note that the Omoda C5, presented today in the Russian Federation, is offered with either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. In the first case, under the hood there is a 1.5-liter turbo engine with a power of 147 hp. (210 Nm), paired with a CVT. The second has a 150-horsepower 1.6-liter TGDI turbo-four (275 Nm), paired with a seven-speed automatic transmission with two wet clutches.
The exterior of the “electric train” is visually noticeably different from the versions with internal combustion engines. The Omoda E5's head optics with LED strips of running lights are designed in a similar way, but in place of the radiator grille there is a large plug, visually reminiscent of a large wide “X”. The brand logo in the form of a name is located on an additional strip between the headlights. An air intake with a pattern of vertical stripes is integrated into the lower part of the front bumper. The Omoda E5 electric crossover also has black roof pillars and a “floating” top of the same color, and the design of the rear differs only due to the absence of exhaust pipes.
The interior of the Omoda E5 has not yet been shown at the local office, but it will probably be the same as that of the C5 petrol SUV. So the front panel will most likely feature a virtual instrument cluster and a touchscreen for the infotainment system. The display diagonal is the same – 10.25 inches. The dimensions of the electric car will likely be approximately the same as the C5: length – 4400 mm, width – 1830 mm, and height – 1588 mm.
The company noted that the Omoda E5 is coming to the “old world” market: the brand has now already registered subsidiaries in Europe, and electric cars should reach local dealers by the end of this year.
