What characteristics of a used car most affect its price in 2023?

Avito Auto experts listed the factors that most contribute to the final cost of cars on the platform in 2023. According to calculations based on the Avito Valuation tool, the largest contribution to the cost of a car among the 36 parameters that the tool analyzes is mileage, number of owners, presence of an accident, color and body type.

The influencing factors described below can either reduce the final cost of a used car or increase it. To calculate the contribution to the price, we took the average cost of a used car on the Avito Auto platform in the period from May to October 2023 — 1,750,000 rubles.

A car loses the most value after up to 40 thousand kilometers

With mileage in the range from 0 to 40,000 km, the final contribution to the cost of the car falls by 9,000 rubles (or 0.68% of the total cost) with every 10,000 km of mileage. Upon reaching the range of 40,000 — 200,000 km, the decline in the contribution slows down to 2,800 rubles (or 0.19% of the total cost) with every 10,000 km of mileage. Starting from 200,000 km, the price of a car almost stops changing with a further increase in mileage.

The first two accidents most affect the further cost of the car

When the first traffic accident occurs, the cost of the car is reduced by an average of 38 thousand rubles (or 2.35% of the total cost). With the second accident, the cost drops by another 17,000 rubles (a decrease of 1.33%). Further, the price reduction has a linear relationship: with each new accident, the amount on average will decrease by 8,500 rubles (or 0.84%).

1 or 2 car owners? There is no effect on the price

If the car was owned by 1-2 owners, the cost remains virtually unchanged. However, with a further increase in the number of owners, the car loses an average of 2,800 rubles with each new owner (a decrease in value by 0.07%).

How the price of a used car changes in 2023 depending on the color and body type

The largest contributions to the final cost of the car are made by white, gray, blue, green and beige colors. The body types that have the greatest impact on the price are coupe, minivan and van.

The colors that make the smallest contribution to the change in cost are purple, pink and burgundy. The body types that have the least impact on the price are pickup trucks, convertibles, and SUVs.
