The French manufacturer has already announced the estimated starting price of the completely “green” compact five-door, it is expected to be about 25,000 euros.
The prototype of the new Renault 5 was presented back in 2021, then it was reported that the developers of its design were inspired by its predecessor of the same name, which was produced between 1972 and 1996. By the way, that “five” was one of the most popular passenger cars in France. As Renault announced today, the production version of the new hatchback will receive an E-Tech boost and will debut on February 26, 2024 at the Geneva Motor Show.

It is known that Renault 5 will replace the Renault Zoe electric hatch, which will soon be retired. Along with the announcement of the debut date of the new product, Renault’s press service also published several teasers of the production version of the “five”. Judging by them, the model’s appearance will be extraordinary, and the point is not only that the exterior of the electric car has been decided to be designed in a retro style.
Judging by the teasers, the production version will receive a digital display with a traction battery charge indicator located on the hood (in the part closer to the windshield). When the battery is fully charged, the display shows the number 5. This element is a reference to the air intake in the same place on the predecessor Renault 5.
More new teasers showed LED headlights and taillights, which are similar to those of the show car, but have a slightly different shape and different filling. The headlights, connected to each other by a strip, received a small French flag at the top and a black dot, which, according to the idea, should resemble the pupil of a human eye. Between the lights there is a wide plate with diagonal strokes and a digital model index (in the prototype it was enclosed in a hexagon and written in a different font).
The teaser also shows part of the sidewall of the future serial Renault hatchback. Judging by the photo, the model will receive expressive rear wings, which were inspired by the designers of the R5 Turbo. Because of them, the five-door will resemble a hot hatch, so Alpine (the brand is owned by Renault) can easily rework the exterior for the promised “hot” model.
It is known that the newly created Ampere division is responsible for creating the new product. The Renault 5 E-Tech will be based on the AmpR Small platform, which was previously called CMF-BEV; it will get a multi-link rear suspension. The length of the production electric car will be 3.92 meters. The company also confirmed that the model will have two battery options to choose from – with a capacity of either 40 or 52 kWh. The hatchback with a second battery has a maximum range of 400 km on a single charge (calculated using the WLTP cycle).
The company has already named the approximate starting price tag for the Renault 5 E-Tech — purchasing a model in the basic version will cost no less than 25 thousand euros (equivalent to approximately 2.45 million rubles at the current exchange rate). In the European market, the new Renault will have to compete for buyers with the upcoming Volkswagen ID.2, as well as the Peugeot e-208 and Citroen e-C3.
