MOSCOW, December 2 Olympic champion in ice dancing Roman Kostomarov told how he came to terms with the loss of his limbs.
The figure skater was admitted to intensive care with pneumonia on January 10 and spent 175 days in the clinic. Due to the development of necrosis, he underwent a series of operations to amputate his arms and legs.
“»Probably, life was too easy for me. Everything was somehow good, measured. Life sent me another test that I had to put up with. Every time I wake up and I think why such a punishment is that for a year or three, let’s say, you are deprived of everything, but here for the rest of your life. You have to come to terms with it, move forward. Life, apparently, is given for you to deal with issues, solve them, set goals, overcame them. This is what life is all about,» Kostomarov said at the event «Iron Will and Technologies for Life» at the International Exhibition and Forum «Russia».
Kostomarov is 46 years old, he is the winner of the Olympic Games in Turin (2006 ), two-time world champion (2004, 2005) and three-time European champion (2004-2006).
