SIRIUS, November 30 The most complete ethical principles of scientific research in Russia can be formulated on the basis of a broad discussion of experts from different fields , including religious figures, says Maria Vorontsova, a member of the presidium of the Russian Association for the Promotion of Science.
The issue of finding a balance between scientific research and ethical and legal regulation of research activities was discussed at a meeting of the working group on regulatory and legal regulation and bioethics in the field of genetic technologies within the framework of the III Congress of Young Scientists.
Ethical principles of research are international in nature and are enshrined in relevant international documents, Vorontsova told reporters following the meeting. These documents are broad in nature and do not limit national principles of bioethics, she noted.
“And we have our own national understanding of what is ethical for us, for Russia, and what is unethical. Some aspects have already been formed. We are not starting from scratch. And this cannot but to please,” she said.
Further development of national approaches to ethical review of research should be based on the results of the discussion, Vorontsova believes.
“It is important that this discussion should take place among experts from different fields, including representatives of different faiths, up to representatives of patient organizations and parents of sick children,” she emphasized.
This will allow us to formulate the “maximum ethical” principles of research for Russia, Vorontsova added.
