MOSCOW , December 2More than five thousand people took part in the III Congress of Young Scientists, which took place from November 28 to 30 on the Sirius federal territory in Sochi, reports the press service of the Roscongress Foundation.
According to the composition of the participants and guests of the event, about 1.9 thousand people are representatives of higher educational institutions: universities, institutes, academies, more than 1.3 thousand people are employees of research institutes. The geography of representation of the participants was also impressive: 85 regions of the Russian Federation and 36 foreign countries, such as Armenia, Iran, Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, the Republic of Belarus, the Republic of Cuba, South Africa and others.
“Every year, the Congress is becoming an increasingly important platform for promoting our presence in the global scientific space. This is facilitated by all the ongoing scientific and educational events of the Congress, demonstrations of advanced high-tech technologies, educational lectures by the masters of our science, and simply joint activities of guests. Expanding the geography of representation participants will help destroy the stereotype of the Russian scientist created by the West, and will contribute to the popularization of the achievements of Russian science,” the message quotes the words of Anton Kobyakov, adviser to the President of Russia, head of the interdepartmental working group for the preparation and holding of the Congress of Young Scientists and satellite events.
The average age of the participants is 30 years old, and the youngest is 11 years old. Among them, more than 1.1 thousand people have an academic degree of Candidate of Sciences, foreign degrees or PhD — more than 50 people, Doctor of Science degrees — more than 240 people. The number of universities that took part in the event was about 410 institutions, of which 24 were foreign higher education institutions.
The key event of the Congress was traditionally the meeting of the President of Russia with young scientists. Before it began, at the exhibition of the Our Laba project, the president was introduced to the successes of Russian scientific instrument making, the statement said.
The business program of the Congress was intense and varied: 157 events over three days. More than 730 speakers, moderators and rapporteurs, Russian and foreign experts, including world-renowned scientists, businessmen and government officials, took part in the discussion of the key challenges facing modern science.
At the Congress, 23 agreements were signed in various areas of cooperation. Among the signatories are world-class scientific and educational centers (RECs), universities and technology companies. The majority of agreements were signed by the TulaTECH REC (12 agreements), the press service explained.
This year the central theme of the Congress was “Space of Opportunity and Development”. It reflected the current domestic and international agenda in the field of science and scientific cooperation. The sessions covered the entire range of topics and areas: scientific, popularization, creative. During the discussions, the development of national projects and initiatives of the Decade of Science and Technology in Russia was discussed: whether it was possible to create a harmonious scientific space and create the value of science in the eyes of society and business. A separate set of issues touched upon the international agenda: – creation of favorable conditions for the implementation of joint scientific projects and the development of relations in all areas of scientific activity, including education.
The final event was the plenary session of the Congress «Science: Space of Opportunities», which was chaired by Dmitry Chernyshenko. He introduced to the meeting participants scientists who had achieved success in their scientific activities, made discoveries, and headed knowledge-intensive companies and research and educational centers. The young researchers spoke about their scientific work, shared stories of their professional success and listed the qualities that a scientist needs to succeed in his career, the press service noted.
They added that in addition to the extensive business program of the Congress, participants were offered a varied cultural and sports program. More than 3.5 thousand Congress participants had the opportunity to visit the Sochi Park theme park for free. More than 850 participants of the Congress of Young Scientists took part in the sports program events.
