The head of Buryatia, Alexey Tsydenov, said on Thursday that the engine of a Tu-204 cargo plane caught fire during takeoff at Ulan-Ude airport, and the car was grounded. The plane was making a cargo flight to China. There were five crew members on board, no injuries.
“According to preliminary data, on December 7, 2023, due to engine surge, a Tu-204m cargo plane en route from Ulan-Ude to Zhangzhou landed at Baikal Airport in Ulan-Ude,” the report says.

The department noted that the causes and circumstances of the accident are being established, and a pre-investigation check is being carried out on the grounds of a crime under Part 1 of Art. 263 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (violation of traffic safety rules and operation of air transport).
