MOSCOW, December 10 The account of the famous American conspiracy theorist Alex Jones on the social network X was restored after 70% of survey participants on the page of the owner of the social network, Elon Musk, were in favor of unblocking it, the Associated Press reports.
The day before, Musk organized a survey on his page, in which almost two million users took part. Of these, 70% supported restoring Jones' account, to which Musk responded: «The people have spoken, and so it will be.»
“»Elon Musk has restored the account of conspiracy theorist Alex Jones on X,» the agency said in a statement.
In 2018, Twitter, Apple, YouTube and Facebook* (an extremist social network banned in the Russian Federation) deleted InfoWars content and Jones’s accounts, citing a violation of the rules for using social networks. Jones called it censorship and alleged harassment from social networks. American media call Jones a conspiracy theorist who spreads “conspiracy theories.” In particular, Jones stated that the school shooting in Connecticut with 26 victims in 2012 was staged, that the US authorities were involved in the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, that the landing of American astronauts on the moon in 1969 was a fake.
In November 2022, Musk refused to unblock the Twitter account (formerly X) of conspiracy theorist radio host Jones due to his claims that the 2012 Connecticut school shooting was staged .
* The activities of Meta (social networks Facebook and Instagram) are prohibited in Russia as extremist.
