In the spring of this year, Chery launched another subsidiary brand in China, it is called iCar and is addressed to young city dwellers who love to hang out on social networks, but at the same time ready to go on vacation with friends out of town at any moment. The first model of the new brand was the compact crossover iCar 03, and pre-sales began today in China.
The iCar brand is positioned as a global brand, its corporate website is already available in both English and Chinese, and Chery took a particularly careful approach to the design of this nonsense. The iCar emblem in the form of the letter “i” was designed by Cao Xue, the author of the mascot (panda) of last year’s Winter Olympic Games in Beijing. This emblem is reproduced in the lighting technology of the iCar 03 crossover and some elements of its interior, that is, it is style-forming.

The presentation of iCar as an independent brand took place in April (previously it was one of Chery’s sub-brands), at the same time the design of the iCar 03 crossover and the iCar GT sports car was declassified, then two more crossovers, another sports car and a minivan will appear in the model range of the new brand. The first to hit the market was the angular crossover iCar 03, it is already available for order in China, prices are still preliminary, while deliveries should begin in the very near future, production of the iCar 03 has already begun.

The body of the iCar 03 is monocoque, the suspension is spring: front is McPherson type, rear is independent multi-link. The overall length, including the “backpack” hanging on the swinging tailgate, is 4406 mm, width is 1910 mm, height is 1715 mm, wheelbase is 2715 mm. Ground clearance – 200 mm (with full load – 170 mm), approach angle – 26 degrees, departure angle – 29 degrees. Curb weight – 1679-1992 kg, depending on modification. Standard wheels are 18- or 19-inch.

The interior is decorated with expensive-looking materials. The front panel can have up to three screens, including an individual one for the front passenger. The i-VA virtual assistant is integrated into the multimedia system – a generative AI in the form of a girl, a kind of analogue of ChatGPT. The central tunnel is fenced with two massive handrails, between which there are two cup holders, a wireless charging tray for a smartphone and a crystal puck for selecting driving modes. The top version of the crossover sports front seats with massagers and ventilation, a powerful audio system with 12 speakers and a second-level autopilot according to the SAE classification.
The base iCar 03 has a single electric motor on the rear axle, its maximum output is 135 kW (184 hp) and 220 Nm. Battery capacity is 50.63 or 65.69 kWh, power reserve on one charge is 401 and 501 km according to the CLTC cycle, respectively.

The all-wheel drive dual-engine iCar 03 has the same rear motor as the single-wheel drive one, the output of the front electric motor is 70 kW (95 hp) and 165 Nm, the maximum total output of the power plant is 205 kW (279 hp) and 385 Nm. The battery capacity is 65.69 or 69.77 kWh, the range on one charge is 472 and 501 km according to the CLTC cycle, respectively. The dual-engine crossover accelerates to 100 km/h in 6.5 seconds, the maximum speed of all versions is limited to 150 km/h.

The minimum pre-sale price of the single-engine iCar 03 in China is 129,800 yuan (1.64 million rubles in translation at the current rate), while at the announcement stage it was expected that it would be about 150,000 RMB The twin-engine iCar 03 costs from 159,800 yuan (2.02 million rubles), the top version with the largest battery and “full stuffing” costs 185,800 yuan (2.35 million rubles).
In Russia, the iCar brand has not yet been officially presented, but here Chery is now launching the Tiggo sub-brand, under which it will sell hybrid and electric cars through a separate dealer network; the first models under this sub-brand will enter the Russian market next year.
