The Mazda CX-70, which was delayed at the start, will receive the engine range from the three-row crossover CX-90

It was decided to postpone the launch of the model: the SUV of the Japanese brand will go on sale not at the end of this year, but at some point next year .

Mazda announced its plan for the release of new products back in October 2021, including the North American market, one of the most important for the brand. The first new product in the States (as part of the strategy) was the Mazda CX-50 SUV: we recall that it entered the production line of a joint plant with Toyota in Huntsville (Alabama) at the beginning of last year. The role of the second promised new product was played by the flagship three-row crossover Mazda CX-90, declassified in early February 2023.

Next, another new product promised to the North American market was supposed to appear – the CX-70 crossover. The company planned that sales would start before the end of this year. However, in October, a Mazda representative said that the car would be delayed: as it turned out, its debut, start of production and entry into the market were postponed until next year (more exact dates have not yet been announced).

As it became known earlier, the Mazda CX-90 already on sale and the announced CX-70 have the same dimensions. Moreover, the first crossover is offered only with three rows of seats (the interior, depending on the configuration, can be designed for either six or seven passengers). While the “delayed” SUV will be available only with two rows of seats.

Apparently, this is where the differences between the models end, since they will have the same “filling”. Previously, the company only reported that the Mazda CX-70 will have a rechargeable hybrid installation. Now details about the technology have appeared: AutoGuide has discovered documents submitted to CARB (California Air Resources Board), judging by which the CX-90 and CX-70 will share the engine range.

This means that the Mazda CX-70 will be offered with the e-Skyactiv PHEV hybrid powertrain. It is based on a 2.5-liter Skyactiv-G gasoline engine, which works in tandem with an electric motor and an eight-speed automatic transmission. The CX-90's maximum combined output is 327 hp. and 500 Nm of torque. The system also includes a battery with a capacity of 17.8 kWh integrated into the floor of the body.

The second version of the CX-70’s “filling” is the M-Hybrid Boost mild-hybrid power plant, based on a 3.3-liter e-Skyactiv-G inline petrol turbo six with an output of 345 hp. (500 Nm). It comes complete with an electric motor and an eight-speed automatic transmission. The drive of this model (like the CX-90) can only be all-wheel drive.

Recall that a Mazda representative previously said that the company was preparing an all-electric new product for the North American market, and explained, that it will most likely be an SUV (it is possible that the currently presented model will have a “green” version). It is known that the “electric train” will go on production in 2025.
