The “hot” new product from the Bavarian brand will go on sale next year. It is known that the model will be equipped with a plug-in hybrid installation based on the V8.
BMW began producing the 5 series in 1972, the current eighth generation model (G60 series), as well as its all-electric version, the BMW i5, were declassified in May of this year; a four-door with a rechargeable hybrid system debuted in September. In the future, the “barn” 5 series Touring will hit the market; In addition, the Bavarians are now continuing to prepare for the premiere of the “charged” M5 sedan and M5 Touring station wagon.
Let us remind you that not every generation of M5 had a five-door version; the last time such an option was present was in the model family with the E61 index: this “hot” station wagon was produced from 2007 to 2010. So the upcoming premiere can safely be called a return: it is known that the start of sales of the BMW M5 Touring is scheduled for 2024, a more precise date will appear later.
For now, the company is keeping the appearance of the BMW M5 Touring a secret, but continues to tease fans of the brand with teasers. Now the Bavarians have published several pictures and a Christmas video of a model in camouflage, and the camouflage film is designed in a festive style — with snowflakes, deer, Christmas trees, which are adjacent to the brand logos and emblems of the BMW M division.
It is expected that the “charged” sedan will have a relatively small radiator grille in the form of branded “nostrils”; the head optics will obviously be transferred from the current four-door 5 series without changes. Otherwise, the lower part of the front bumper will be designed with air intakes of a different shape. By the way, earlier the designer of Kolesa.ru suggested what this “charged” station wagon might look like.
Judging by the teasers, the BMW M5 Touring will have slightly flared wheel arches, a large split spoiler on the top of the tailgate and a pair of exhaust tips on each side at the bottom of the rear bumper. Between them there will probably be a diffuser, and the “charged” station wagon will also have other lights (most likely in a more familiar shape for the brand).
There is practically no official information about the BMW M5 Touring technology yet; the company only said that the model will be equipped with a plug-in hybrid system, which is based on a V8. According to preliminary data, we are talking about a 4.4-liter S63 V8 engine, which in tandem with an electric motor will produce about 710 hp. power. This hybrid wagon is expected to have all-wheel drive.
Meanwhile, the Bavarian company continues develop the direction of completely “green” models. Recently it became known that BMW has hinted at the development of an electric M3 super sedan. It is expected that it will be created based on the Vision Neue Klasse concept, which was presented during the Munich Motor Show, held early last fall.
