In most “old world” countries, only diesel is declared for a fresh SUV, and only in a year the model should turn into a “mild” hybrid .
The world premiere of the new generation frame Toyota Land Cruiser Prado with the factory index J250 was held in August of this year. By the way, in many markets, SUVs do not have the “surname” Prado, which is familiar to Russians — there it is just Land Cruiser or Land Cruiser 250. So in December, the European division of Toyota officially announced that it was starting to accept pre-orders for the new model, although deliveries have started only in the third quarter of 2024. True, the launch of online booking has so far been announced only in Spain and Germany, and even there it had to be closed almost immediately: all the cars were quickly “dismantled.”

Thus, the Spanish office of the brand opened orders on December 11; in this country, the LC Prado was available in the only “welcome” top version, First Edition, with round diode headlights instead of rectangular ones. 250 of these SUVs were sent to Spain at a staggering price of 85,950 euros. However, according to local media, the “reserve” button on Toyota’s Spanish website stopped working after just a few hours.

In Germany, online registration for the new Prado opened on December 21, where the quota is larger (1000 cars) and the range of versions is wider: along with the First Edition, these are also well-equipped Executive and Tec Editions. Moreover, unlike Spain, prices were not announced. However, this fact did not bother the Germans: the entire batch was reserved in just half an hour!

Let us remind you that in the new generation the SUV has moved to the GA-F platform, which also underlies the new Lexus GX and older models of the Toyota Land Cruiser 300 and Lexus LX. The length of the Prado has increased by 100 mm to 4925 mm, the wheelbase is now the same 2850 mm as that of the “three hundredth” (the previous LC Prado was 2790 mm). The passport ground clearance of the new product is 220 mm.

In the Old World, the model is now available with a 1GD-FTV 2.8 turbodiesel (204 hp, 500 Nm) in combination with a six- or eight-speed automatic transmission (depending on the market). And in 2025, the diesel SUV will turn into a “mild” hybrid in Western Europe: the Land Cruiser Prado will receive a 48-volt starter-generator. In other regions, the range will also include the naturally aspirated petrol 2TR-FE 2.7 (163 hp, 246 Nm) and the T24A-FTS 2.4 turbo engine (281 hp, 430 Nm). In addition, in some places there will be a full-fledged hybrid (but without the ability to charge from the mains) with the installation of i-Force Max: this is the same turbo-four, plus an electric motor built into the eight-speed automatic transmission and a modest battery with a capacity of 1.87 kWh; the total output of this LC Prado is 330 hp. and 630 Nm. Well, the V6 engine has become the prerogative of its premium brother — Lexus GX.
Meanwhile, in the future Toyota can expand the Kruzak family: in the fall, the brand showed a conceptual electric car Land Cruiser Se. But this is not an SUV, but a crossover with a monocoque body.
