ST. PETERSBURG, December 25 Science fiction writer and founder of the science fiction literature publishing house Terra Fantastica Nikolai Yutanov has died, his friend, a senior scientist, announced this employee of the St. Petersburg branch of the Institute of the History of Natural Science and Technology named after S. I. Vavilov Andrey Ermolaev on his page on the social network VKontakte.
“»Unable to overcome heart disease, science fiction writer, publisher, astronomer and futurologist Nikolai Yutanov died. Just a month ago he turned 64 years old,» wrote Andrei Ermolaev.
He added that Yutanov came from the literary seminar of Boris Strugatsky, the author of the books “The Werewolf” and “The Path of Deception.” “But he is much more famous as the creator of the Terra Fantastica publishing house, which for a long time was one of the trendsetters in the publishing of science fiction literature,” Ermolaev wrote.
«Terra Fantastica» has prepared many landmark editions of books by Tolkien, Zelazny, Heinlein, Strugatsky, Lukyanenko and other luminaries of world and domestic science fiction, as well as Shakespeare and other classics.
«Almost all publishing houses in St. Petersburg employ or have worked as editors from students who went through Yutanov's school.» My wife and I also worked for Yutanov, and it was a wonderful time. Personally, I owe Kolya the happiness that she has become for me working with the collected works of Robert Heinlein,” shared Ermolaev.
Also, under the leadership of Yutanov, such events as the Congress of Science Fiction Writers of Russia, the Forum of the Future conference, and the presentation of the literary awards “Wanderer” and “Swords” were held in St. Petersburg.
