MOSCOW, December 26 Attendance at libraries throughout Russia has increased by an average of 28%, said Russian Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova.
«From the moment when the national project «Culture» started, we did not even imagine what the result would be, but now we see that library attendance has increased by 28%. This is on average,» Golikova said during the opening of libraries in regions of Russia via video communication.
She noted that over the entire period of implementation of the national project, 1060 new model libraries have already been opened. Next year will allow the opening of another 146 facilities.
«Three million books have already been purchased — what we have been waiting for with you for the last 25 years. This is a variety of literature, including modern publications. The population coverage exceeds 60 million people. We see “that interest in model libraries is only growing,” added Lyubimova.
She emphasized that librarianship today is experiencing a “renaissance.” By the end of next year, 1,229 updated libraries in 87 regions will be available for visiting.
Golikova and the Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation Olga Lyubimova, with the participation of the General Director of the Russian State Library Vadim Duda, opened model libraries in Orenburg, Cheboksary and the Belgorod region , and a virtual reading room was opened in Lugansk.
The national project «Culture» was developed by decree of Russian President Vladimir Putin dated May 7, 2018 and has been implemented since January 1, 2019.
