The ETNA analytics service, developed by the Tinkoff Center for Artificial Intelligence Technologies, has compiled a forecast for the use of mobile communications in Russia on New Year's Eve — 2024 and throughout the New Year's Eve. The forecast was built using a set of algorithms, using anonymized data from Tinkoff Mobile subscribers for 2019–2023 as a base.
Main forecasts for the use of mobile communications on New Year's Eve:
- Data traffic consumption will continue to grow: on average, one subscriber will spend 1.07 GB of Internet on New Year’s Eve — 8% more than a year ago.
- Calls and SMS will not be refused:On average, a subscriber will make one call on New Year's Eve. The average call duration will be 83 seconds. Those who prefer SMS will send an average of 7 messages per night.
- Most congratulations — at the chime and immediately after: the maximum load on the network is traditionally expected from 00: 00 to 01:00 Moscow time.
- The least load on the network is expected around four to five in the morning— at this time, mobile Internet consumption, call duration and SMS sending frequency decrease.
According to ETNA forecast, one user will spend 1 .07 GB of Internet traffic is 8% more than at the same time a year ago. This amount of traffic is enough to chat on social networks, call friends and watch short videos all night without connecting to your home Wi-Fi. You can also watch a movie or play an online game all night.
The most active consumers of Internet traffic will be residents of the Republic of Tyva — one subscriber from the region uses an average of 1.7 GB of traffic over the entire New Year's Eve. The top 3 will also include the Magadan region (1.4 GB) and Buryatia (1.2 GB).
Peaks in mobile data traffic consumption will begin on December 31 at 19:00 and 21:00, then continue closer to midnight and until 02:00 on January 1. In the period from 04:00 to 05:00 on January 1, ETNA predicts minimal subscriber activity in mobile networks.
At the same time, Russians will not refuse calls on New Year's Eve — according to ETNA’s forecast, on average a subscriber will make one call on New Year’s Eve, and every second subscriber will make two calls. The average call duration on New Year's Eve, according to ETNA, will be 83 seconds.
Residents of the Chukotka Autonomous Okrug will talk on the phone the longest on New Year's Day — the average call will last 218 seconds. The top 3 for the duration of calls on New Year's Eve will include the Khabarovsk Territory (124 seconds) and the Amur Region (120 seconds).
SMS congratulations will also be in demand. According to ETNA's forecast, those subscribers who send SMS will write an average of 7 messages per night. Residents of the Republic of Tyva will send the most SMS on New Year's Day — on average, one person will send 10 messages throughout the night. The top 3 in terms of the number of SMS will also include the Arkhangelsk region and the Komi Republic (9 SMS per person).
