A new device for stopping the spread of landscape fires was developed by the Ivanovo Fire and Rescue Academy of the State Fire Service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia. Recently, the development of fire scientists was protected by a patent of the Russian Federation.
The device developed by firefighters — This is an option for a barrier that should be installed along the expected path of fire spread. The main elements of a fire protection fence — metal triangular racks and fire-resistant awnings stretched over them.
In essence, the enclosing elements are tents. The frame is made of isosceles triangles made of metal, in three corners of which holes are drilled for cables. They are installed at a distance of 1.5-2 meters from one another. Metal plates with lugs are attached to the bases of the triangles — with pins about 15 centimeters long welded to them. Length of triangle edges — 1 meter, angles at the base 75°. Experimentally, fire scientists have found that this is enough.
Two people are enough to install the fence. First, triangular posts are installed around the perimeter of the fire, then sheets of fire-resistant fiberglass are attached to them. They are secured between the posts using steel cables, which are threaded into the holes of the triangles, and then into the holes located along the upper and lower edges of the canvas. The lugs are inserted into the lower edges of the canvas. Thanks to them, the protective fence tightly adheres to the ground, preventing fire from penetrating under the awning. Then the same awning is attached to the other edges of the triangle.
Tests have shown that the new fire protection is much more effective than its analogues. Thanks to the use of fabric, it can be installed on rough terrain (it can go around any unevenness of the earth's surface), for the same reason it can be curved. Firefighters hope that their invention will help eliminate landscape fires faster and more efficiently.
