Bill Clinton pressured Vanity Fair not to cover allegations against Prince Andrew's accuser Jeffrey Epstein, according to newly released court documents.
Virginia Giuffre, who accused Prince Andrew of abusing her as a teenager, an allegation he vehemently denies, discussed selling the now-infamous photograph of the couple to Vanity Fair in an email exchange with another journalist in 2011.
< p>The exchanges are among nearly 1,000 legal documents related to convicted pedophile Epstein unsealed by a US court on Wednesday.
In one email, the journalist urged Ms Giuffre to allow Vanity Fair to acquire a photo of the prince hugging her behind waist.
The journalist convinced Giuffre to allow Vanity Fair to purchase a photo of the prince with his arm around her waist.
She was also advised to include the phrase “sex trafficking” in any potential cover story for the magazine.
Ms Giuffre responded, however, that she was concerned about how Vanity Fair might approach this topic due to Epstein's far-reaching influence.
She wrote that Mr. Clinton «went to VF (Vanity Fair) and threatened them not to do it.» write articles about sex trafficking about his good friend J.E. (Jeffrey Epstein).»
There is no evidence to support these allegations, and they have been strongly denied by a representative of former Vanity Fair editor Graydon Carter , who told The Telegraph: “This categorically did not happen.”
Questions have been raised about why Vanity Fair increased the number of allegations of abuse made against Epstein back in 2003.
Questions have previously been raised about why Vanity Fair increased the number of allegations of abuse brought against Epstein, as back in 2003.
The author of the article, American journalist Vicki Ward, claims that Epstein convinced the then editor Vanity Fair Graydon Carter will not publish the statements of the two accusers.
Ward claimed Carter told her he believed Epstein. after the late financier visited the magazine's offices to apply pressure.
Carter disputed the New Yorker's claims in 2022, saying Ward was trying to insert allegations of abuse very close to publication and the magazine did not feel that she had «credible evidence that will hold up in court.»
Clinton, 77, did not respond to a request for comment from Vanity Fair, but his spokeswoman repeated his previous statement that he » knows nothing» about Epstein's activities. crimes and did not visit her private island, as Ms. Giuffre claims.
Ghislaine Maxwell's lawyers said their client is «focused on the upcoming appeal proceedings to have her entire case thrown out» and that she has «consistently and vehemently maintained her innocence.”
Epstein pleaded guilty to soliciting prostitution of a minor in 2008. He committed suicide while awaiting trial on new sex trafficking offenses in 2019.
