Hollywood to name Golden Globe winners

WASHINGTON, January 7The Golden Globes for Achievement in Film and TV Series will be presented in Los Angeles on the evening of January 7, the first ceremony to open the US film awards season since the reorganization of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, which founded the award.
Nominees include “Barbie,” “Oppenheimer,” “The Lost and Lost,” “Killers of the Flower Moon” and “Anatomy of a Fall.”

    Old brand new life

The 81st awards ceremony will be held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel and will be the first since the liquidation of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) that founded the award last summer. The HFPA has been at the center of high-profile scandals over recent years involving corruption, racism, sexism and other high-profile issues. The solution was found in a plan approved by the Attorney General of the State of California, according to which the Association, which was a non-profit structure, was abolished, and the award itself was registered as a commercial enterprise – with all the necessary reporting and associated contractual obligations of employees – by them, the media say, with a salary of 75 thousand dollars a year, became members of the Association created in 1943.

In the new format, the company was temporarily headed by the flamboyant American investor Todd Boeley, co-owner of the British football club Chelsea, and owner of Eldridge Industries, which combines an extensive portfolio of businesses in the fields of media, film production and real estate. These include a share in the ownership of the hotel where the ceremony will take place, as well as a number of major Hollywood print and online publications. As New York's Vulture reported in December, also partly through one of Boeli's subsidiaries, questions or suspicions of corruption may not be a thing of the past for the new Golden Globes.
Meanwhile, observers unanimously admit that whatever the reform may lead to, the threefold increase in the number of voting members over the past few years, and their number is 300 people from 75 countries, gives hope for a more representative assessment of the industry's achievements.
