The German company is preparing a restyled version of its bestseller, and with it a “charged” modification of the GTI. What will it look like?
The Golf model is the most successful in the Volkswagen range in history and one of the best-selling cars in the world. Production of the first generation hatchback began in 1974, and today the eighth generation of the Golf is on the assembly line, which premiered in October 2019. The restyled version of the car will premiere soon, and at the beginning of last summer we published renderings of the standard hatchback. Today we’ll look at the “hot” version of the GTI, which will have its own features in appearance.

The Golf update will be evolutionary in nature, but some changes will be very noticeable. First of all, Volkswagen decided to significantly simplify the shape of the front optics, for which many criticized the car after its premiere. The headlights will become slightly narrower and will lose one of the “steps” at the bottom. A special feature of the GTI version is a bumper with an original design: it will retain a large air intake in a hexagonal honeycomb, while receiving more impressive “fangs” painted in the body color. At the rear, the changes are more laconic; here the restyling will only affect the lights, which, while remaining unchanged, will receive new graphics of LED running lights, echoing the updated Arteon model.

The interior of the new GTI has already been declassified. The most interesting thing here is the fulfillment of Volkswagen's promise of eliminating touch buttons on the steering wheel. Also, as befits a restyled model, an updated multimedia system with a larger screen has appeared. The technology is still kept secret, there is a possibility that the new product will receive a slightly boosted engine. The current model is equipped with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo engine producing 245 hp. paired with a 7-speed DSG robotic gearbox. It has already been announced that the restyled hatchback will lose its 6-speed manual transmission.
