NIZHNY NOVGOROD, January 11A twenty-two-year-old resident of Mordovia, who was detained while attempting to set fire to equipment on a railway in the hope of getting money from Ukraine, was sentenced to 2 years in a penal colony, reports the republic’s FSB Directorate.
Vadim Filyankin was detained along with two acquaintances in December 2022 while attempting to set fire to battery cabinets near the Svetotekhnika-Alatyr stations (Chuvashia) and a traction substation on the railway section between the Yalga-Saransk stations of the Kuibyshev railway.
«Canisters of gasoline, burners and other items were confiscated from the attackers. During the investigation, it was established that the young people communicated with unknown persons through one of the messengers from Ukraine, who offered to damage a railway facility for a reward. The criminal intent was not completed for reasons beyond their control,» the statement says.
The Alatyrsky District Court of Chuvashia found Filyankin guilty of attempted intentional destruction and damage to someone else's property, committed by arson (Article 167 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). “The court sentenced the defendant to 2 years in a penal colony,” the release notes.
The Supreme Court of Chuvashia left the verdict unchanged, it entered into legal force.
