The Vietnamese company VinFast made a strong appearance at CES 2024 in Las Vegas, thereby emphasizing that the American market is a priority for it . The main novelty of the VinFast stand was the conceptual electric pickup truck VF Wild, the production version of which is expected by 2026.
The home market is too small for the ambitious Vietnamese company VinFast: China is full of its own cool “electric trains”, so it was decided to develop the business in the direction of the West, with an emphasis on the USA and Europe. Last year, VinFast began trial deliveries of its electric crossovers to California and began forming a dealer network in other states, and in July, construction began on VinFast’s own plant in North Carolina, its design capacity is 150,000 cars per year, the launch is scheduled for the second half 2025.

At CES 2024, VinFast announced the start of deliveries of its electric bicycles to the United States and showed the small, angular three-door crossover VF 3, already familiar to our readers: it will cost less than $20,000 in the United States, and pre-orders will begin this year. Well, the spotlight of the world press was on the VinFast VF Wild concept pickup truck, developed in collaboration with the Australian design studio Gomitiv.

VinFast VF Wild is a direct analogue of the American Fisker Alaska electric pickup truck, which should go into production in 2025. The production version of the VinFast VF Wild is expected by 2026, according to Automotive News. In terms of dimensions, the VF Wild is close to Alaska: the length of the Vietnamese pickup truck is 5324 mm, the American one is 5304 mm. The useful length of the VF Wild body, like the Alaska body, can be increased due to the folded tailgate and folded second row seats.

Unfortunately, there is no information about the technical contents of the VF Wild yet, but we believe that it has a monocoque body, like the Fisker pickup truck. The concept does not have central pillars of the cabin, and the rear doors open against the main movement, but the production VF Wild will probably have everything like everyone else — both pillars and doors. The windshield that extends onto the roof and the Y-shaped roof structure can easily be brought to the assembly line.

We would like to add that on January 5 of this year, a reshuffle occurred in the management of VinFast: the founder of the company and the chairman of its board of directors, Pham Nhat Vuong took over as CEO, while former CEO Le Thi Thu Thuy became chairman of the board of directors. This must be understood in such a way that Pham Nhat Vuong now wants to be personally involved in operational management and bear full responsibility for the development of the company. In light of how Chinese manufacturers are now powerfully pushing into the global car market, this decision should be recognized as bold and honest.
