England begin a busy year of Test cricket with a five-match series in India as they look to continue their Buzzball revolution on the subcontinent.
Since Brendon McCullum took over as Test coach in 2022, England have yet to lose a Test series, home or away, with four wins and three draws. Their overall Test win-loss record stands at 14 wins and six defeats over the same period.
However, the last time England toured India they were 3-1 down. They won the first Test but then lost the next three badly, by 317 runs, 10 wickets, innings and 25 runs respectively. Indeed, since their famous 2-1 win in 2012-13, England have won just one Test in nine in India, losing seven and drawing another.
The tour comes after England wrapped up 2023 with a T20 tournament and a one-day international tour of the West Indies.
The hosts have already announced the squad for the first two Test matches, which can be found here.

Which TV channel is India? against England?
As of the second week of the new year, it was still unknown which TV channel in the UK would carry the live feed from India. However, it is not uncommon for television rights for subcontinent tours to be issued with very late notice.
Live radio coverage will be on Talksport rather than the BBC Test Match Special. Although the BBC bid for the rights, Talksport lost out to them.
Who's in the England team? Bashir, 20, was selected for England after just six first-class matches
England surprised fans by announcing the appointment of Shoaib Bashir, the 20-year-old Somerset player, one of three debutants in his team.
Bashir, who played just six games of first-class cricket for Somerset, was selected for his potential, likely due to his high-level performances and impressive performances at the England Lions training camp in the UAE.
In the 16-player touring squad, the other two men uncapped at Test level are Lancashire left-arm spinner Tom Hartley and Surrey fast bowler Gus Atkinson. Hartley and Atkinson both played white-ball cricket for the national team.
Leg-spinner Rehan Ahmed is also in the squad and there is a fourth spin option in Jack Leach, who is returning from a stress fracture in his back. Liam Dawson and Will Jacks, two other spinners with international experience, were left out.
There are four seam bowling options: James Anderson, Ollie Robinson, Mark Wood and Atkinson.
