ST. PETERSBURG, January 14 . Investigators opened a criminal case after a fire at the Wildberries warehouse in St. Petersburg, the city department of the Investigative Committee reported.

According to the investigation, the fire occurred “as a result of abuse of power by unidentified persons performing management functions related to compliance with fire safety rules.” Due to the fire, the warehouse building collapsed and the goods stored in it were destroyed.
The fire site is now being inspected and all the circumstances of the incident are being clarified.

The previous morning, a fire broke out in the Wildberries warehouse complex in Shushary. The fire area was localized to 70 thousand square meters, while a collapse occurred on an area of 40 thousand square meters.
Today at 14:17 the Ministry of Emergency Situations announced the elimination of open burning in the warehouse. Specialists are carrying out watering and dismantling of structures.
The company confirmed the fact of the fire, clarifying that people were evacuated. They added that sellers will receive compensation for goods damaged in the fire, and buyers will be refunded for lost orders.
Information about casualties was not received.
The State Construction Supervision Authority of St. Petersburg reported that Wildberries did not apply to the department for permission for putting the warehouse into operation. The company itself stated that the complex had a conclusion that it complied with all requirements.
